Director of Football

I've never been more convinced of the need for one at Celtic Park as i am now.

Firstly, what happened on Tuesday was Lennons fault and Lennons fault only. There was no need for it, he was trying to be a smart @r$e and he failed miserably.

However, i have been banging the same drum for years on here about the need to be ready, to have a settled back four for the qualifiers.

Unfortunately saying "keep the faith" didn't work, so we are going to have to try something radical like planning ahead and this is where Celtic are woefully inept.

They knew we were going to offer Lustig a deal he didn't want, they must have unless they left it till the last minute so in either case - fail.

They knew benkovic was leaving and didnt prepare - fail

They knew Tierney was leaving - should have had a left back in asap. Fail

They knew boyata was leaving and didn't have someone in from the start - Fail

Toljan, Gamboa, Izzy - all leaving.

If we didn't forsee that this might be a problem when going into the champions league qualifiers, particularly after last season failure then it proves the men in charge of our club are not capable of preparing us for next year. Peter Lawwell is a businessman, he is not a football man, and for that reason we need a DOF.

In my eyes, it would have to be someone who Lennon respects and from that perspective there are two choices

Gordon Strachan & Martin O'Neil.

Strachan is no for me, i couldn't stomach listening to his schite.

O'Neil on the other hand is a goer, he never took training at Celtic and instead managed the club top to bottom. He has a relationship with the board and a relationship with the manager.

He also understands football and the need for preperation.

It's a no brainer as far as i'm concerned.

Unlike you to be so dogmatic and give the impression that you think you're the only poster on here who knows what they're talking about.

Not really. I don't say much unless I think I'm right, so it's a pretty easy impression to give.

And they are. All of 'em,

...and, entertaining as you can often be, if anyone is ever going to tell me that, or pretty much anything for that matter, it almost certainly won't be you. FFS.

This town don't need no sheriff.

Ok. I cant be bothered with a juvenile debate so I'll leave you to your sweeping proclamations.

Missed this one. Sorry.

I may be a cant but I'm not a Tory or a unionist ...have never joined the party or voted for them as far as I recall.

My own personal opinion (just an opinion...not trying to force it on anyone else and I could be wrong) is that people who became conservatives post-thatcher are probably largely cants, as would be most members of the right wing of the party.

Old school, more moderate Conservatives, those on the middle of the party, might be ok.

I'd happily go for a pint with Ken Clarke for instance. That would be interesting.

I'd normally avoid going for a pint with people I knew to be cants or others with extreme views.

MON shouldn’t be anywhere near a director of football role at Celtic. He’s a dinosaur.

He was great for us but ultimately left us with an ageing overpaid team that Strachan had to tidy up.

O’Neil has a budget beyond what any current Celtic manager will get
A wee bit knee jerk here after one stinker of a result if I’m being honest
You’ll put 7 past Dunfermline beat hearts and set it up nicely for our first meeting of the season assuming of course we can also win
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Said that yesterday mate.
I'm not sure it's completely knee jerk though.
As soon as people saw the line up, the outcome was predictable.

Having said that, we've not been in a bad match this season. Even the other night was a cracking game.

My hope was that we would take th foundation that Brendan had built and his approach and vary it a bit...move the ball faster, more movement from the players and occasionally get the ball forward a bit faster.

That's the recipe for success IMO.

Instead we've gone from full Brendan (successful but dull) to full Lenny....and everyone knows you never go full Lenny.
