'Sanchez will play more than you expect'

Solskjaer on Sanchez: "Alexis is such a professional & he comes in working every single day, really hard, and he wants to be a part of this. It’s these stories again that he's been put in the reserves and all this - of course he hasn't. He's part of our squad & he’s a very, very good player. He’s had three weeks now, so he's a few weeks behind the rest but he’s very close to being part of it.

"We don't have the biggest forward line in numbers. so Alexis might end up playing a lot more games than you expect. We expect him to come good at this club, he's quality."

Could alexis establish himself as an additional facet of our attack more centrally this season? Especially if we go with the 4 2 3 1 formation? I said t all of last season, for us to get ANYTHING out of him we have to play him centrally. He is no longer a wide player, he's lost his pace but I still think he's got good movement and hopefully still has that finishing ability should he get in the right positions.

I'm aware the guy was dog last season but we are short in numbers, I don't see the harm of playing him ahead of jesse Lingard as long as he shows a good work rate.

Lingard to me is the epitome of everything that has gone wrong in the last ten years.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Academy graduate, England international, has a fantastic attitude, gets on well with the team and staff, one of the few that is able to execute Ole's new playing philosophy.

Not really sure what your problem with him is ...

Lingard’s pass completion rate is up over 85%. Sanchez’s was under 75%.
...............
that is because lingard passes it backwards or sideways 99% of the time. he destroys every single attack by slowing us down and passing it three yards and then coming short again. reminder: lingard has ten pl assists in his entire united career. the same amount as angel di maria.

sanchez gives it away a lot but at least he always goes for the killer ball.

last season lingard played 7 more games than sanchez, played roughly twice as many passes and created 5 big chances. Sanchez created 6 big chances.

that is damning

Rosso is writing a counter argument as we speak.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Don't hold your breath. Rosso is a simpleton. He reminds me of the callers who might call into the paddy crerand show.

i would not worry about him and his stone age footballing opinions. It is no surprise to see him defending Lingard, he is english and came through the academy after all. Never mind that he has been demonstrably terrible for years, he knows the club.

Lingard to me is the epitome of everything that has gone wrong in the last ten years. Millions of chances given to players for the wrong reasons.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

The club has largely followed your prescription of "don't do long-term planning" and "spend big money on players with existing reputations" for the last 6 years, Hippo, and you still stride around with the arrogant tone of someone who has never been wrong.

You make some great contributions to this forum and should be above using that language about someone you disagree with.

Some of the vitriol aimed at Lingard on this site is embarassing. He always puts a shift in, makes great runs that create space for others, scores some important goals. His form was bad when he came back from injury last season but he was one of the star performers in Ole's initial run. He may be a bit of an a*** on twitter but he is important part of the squad.

What's made our club bad is the superstars who think that getting the contract means job done and the trend of buying for the name, rather than the problem the player will solve.
