Wan-Bissaka quotes

Our new right-back quoted in the Guardian today. I really get the feeling we've signed a gem here. Not just his attributes as a player, but what people say about his character, which are underlined by the maturity of his comments.

On the first game at OT:

“I wasn’t nervous, that’s not me, but I think a lot of eyes were on the new signings to see how we got on. I just tend to block out that stuff and focus on my own game but at the same time I was really excited about it. I got a lot of playing time in pre-season matches, which I needed because it helped me get to know the team.

“The games all went well and the players were all great with me from the first day onwards. They are all good lads and they helped me a lot when it came to settling in, but even so your first league game at Old Trafford is always going to be a landmark. Thankfully I was happy with my performance."

Wider reflections on joining United:

“What we have at United now is a good mix of young and experienced players and, speaking as one of the younger members of the squad, I think that’s important. We need people to set the standards to live up to, to set the tempo in games when we need it and the more experienced players in the dressing room are capable of doing that.

“I’ve become quite close to Axel Tuanzebe since joining the club. He’s taken me under his wing a bit, though I must admit the whole squad has been looking after me. It has been really easy to come here and feel a part of things. Nobody’s left me out of anything; they all speak with me and interact and that’s really good. It’s been a huge help and I’d like to thank the fans, too, for giving us such support. The crowd was amazing during the Chelsea game and I’ve heard great things about United’s away following as well. Now it’s up to us to give them something to celebrate at Wolves."

...good to read about his friendship with Axel. Hope they end up spending many years in the first XI together.

He'sthe first one over to congratulate James when he scored which says something seeing as it was a quick break and he's a rb.

Proper athlete. Sounds like he's got minerals.

I think everyone who saw him at palace last season knew this would be a safe signing.

Loved seeing the likes of James, Mctominay, AWB all celebrating like they really have a damn.

It's a shame there only Wan-Bisaka in the side. We could do with an LB version of him.

AWB looks like one of the most surefire success signings we’ve made in ages. Early days but just has a way about him that we’ve lacked back there for years

Very promising

I'm Shaw our left back will be replaced next summer tbh

Shaw is fairly defensively solid, has a bit about him there, it's linking the whole left side he seems to have a issue with, doesn't get a whack of help and certainly could do with being better on the front foot going forward imo?

AWB looks the part, early doors but I have high hopes for him, athletic, pacy, great anticipation, time will tell but ffs he's a whack of an improvement on Young (who I like as a squad player, feels the club) and Tony, hope he kicks on this season

Shaw will be fine. No need to replace unless something special is out there. Dalot can play either side as well, can’t he?

One of Jose's fatal mistakes was ignoring the need for a right back. Yes Dalot was bought, but having played only a handful of games for Porto it looked like a one for the future signing. AWB does look the real deal, he certainly doesn't seem over awed by the club.

Appears to have his head screwed on properly. Will be an asset to the team
