It's a sad fact that the England cricket team rarely turn up when the chips are down. Individually they have a massive pool of talent but constantly fail to realise the sum of their potential. They may have redeemed their reputation somewhat in winning the World Cup, but even then they struggled against lesser teams. There's clearly no simple explanation, but a factor has to be the lack of a killer instinct. After Jofra Archer's heroics yesterday, the Aussies were reeling and the fact we couldn't capitalise on that says so much about the character of our team. Basically we can't handle pressure like the Aussies and maybe that says something about our approach to the sport.

Funnily enough I really believed we would do it even before we started our innings yesterday, we were due a proper test-match batting performance and all of our players are rising to the individual battles now between bat and ball / with the bowlers.
We're not there yet but well done Root for getting us back into this test match and very unlucky with the dismissal, was really hoping he'd go onto convert a 100. Roy was also unlucky, he was playing better and leaving the ball well then dismissed by an outstanding ball.

I was really confident we would see it through but very nervous now and hate to say it but 88 feels a very long way away, if Stokes goes it's surely all over =(
Can't believe the stupid way we lost Buttler and what was Woakes doing playing that drive, just needed to survive and stay in with Stokes, at least until he was in himself.

Exactly... Was thinking the same thing, hit two nice fours, one of which was close to being caught. Why can't you just be happy with that and defend the last ball of the over...

to be fair... 1st test we dominated but for Steve Smith, 2nd test we were in control but the weather beats us.. the only test we've been back against the wall was 3rd test, where we somehow performed a miracle...
lets get Root at 4 and Roy out of the side, and bring it home
