Rebuilding With Youth

Much has been made about the fact Vertonghen is now 32 and Toby has (recently) turned 30. Also a few moany negative things about us not looking like Peps Barca in our first two matches and GLC and Sessegnon not being quite ready yet.

Personally I think we should focus on the positives. There’s a good article here https://www.skysports.com/share/11792177 that includes a chat with Poch about how excited he is to start working with fresh young players after his first core squad at Spurs reaches the end of its cycle.

In the summer we focused on bringing in top quality players of 23 and under. Poch talks about complimenting quality young signings with young players from the academy. We had the youngest team in the PL for 3 seasons but that team aged and didn’t get refreshed. It’s obvious we are now building for phase 2 of Poch’s tenure and I think when you look at our comings and goings this year we are going for youth and quality over quantity, and I think when you look at the list of players and their ages it’s exciting for the future.

Lo Celso 23
Ndombele 23
Dele Alli 23
Sanchez 23
Winks 23
KWP 22
Foyth 21
Sessegnon 19
Skipp 18
Parrott 17

Wanyama will go and Skipp will take his place in the squad. Parrott looks like a fantastic prospect and will see first team action this season. Sess has already scored 17 goals in a Championship season, his ceiling is huge now he’s at a club with a proper coach. Dele is still only 23, as per Lo Celso and Ndombele.

We have some top class players who are now senior players coming into their prime years but still young in Kane 26, Son 27 and Lucas 27. Eriksen is 27 too and it’s just a shame that we’re unlikely to hold onto him.

Our current net spend is about +£50m (assuming Wanyama goes). If Eriksen goes we’ll be in the black, again, meaning I’d expect further investment with a similar strategy if not in Jan then certainly next summer.

Finally, it’s absolutely worth noting that with Kane, Winks and KWP our current starting 11 includes 3 lads who aren’t just from our academy, but local to the area. I doubt many top PL and CL clubs can say that.

Ted, you are the most clueless poster that comes on the forum. Honestly you don’t know or understand a single thing about football or THFC, your posts are barely fit for wiping my arrse with.

Good article Ace, but surely there has to come a time when Spurs have to deliver. The current period is the longest in my lifetime without a trophy. How long are we to wait for all the youngsters to gel?

we had a good team of younsters 2or 3 seasons ago, went close, probably should have won it , now there all getting older and some need replacing and so it goes on

Enough with the rebuilding. We hear the same $hit every year.

Yes we do. Rebuilding with youth is all we ever do, it’s literally club policy.

To add to that, we didn’t rebuild - or build - at all last year, we stuck with what we had as we felt it was good enough. Wasn’t the most fluid season but we did get to the COC semi, finish top 4 and reach the CL final.

We haven’t had a ‘rebuild’ since Poch first came in and got rid of the previous era’s players for his own. Our core squad has been the same for a while now, but some of them are getting older or have been moved on and there’s an obvious plan to replace with players around 23 or younger, which excites Poch. Hence the article.

Facking miserable negative bunch most of the Spurs fans on this forum are these days.

Just see this on another forum Andy thought it was great at explaining the current squad.

With N'Koudou gone, we've finally opened up an 'Overseas Trained' player slot. If the Wanyama deal goes through (as it seems on course to do) we open up two Overseas Trained player slots.

I'd suggest that opening up two slots for Overseas Trained players suggests we'll go into the January TW with the intention of buying one or two players - if suitable quality players are available at 'realistic' prices

It also allows Parrott to be named in our UEFA squad - as he has only been at Spurs for one season and trained in Ireland before he will be deemed to be 'Overseas Trained' player for this season - but an u21 for the following season.

The full squad (after N'Koudou has left)
The players are categorised by position and UEFA designation of Club trained (Club) and Trained by other FA Affiliated Clubs (Assn) or Under 21 (u21), where there is no designation the player is Overseas Trained

Gk’s - Lloris, Gazzaniga
CB’s - Alderweireld, Vertonghen, Sanchez, Foyth (u21)
FB’s - Aurier, Walker Peters (Club), Rose (Club), Davies
CM’s - Ndombele, Winks (Club), Dier, Sissoko, Wanyama, Skipp (u21)
AM’s - Eriksen, Dele (Assn), Son, Moura, Lamela. Lo Celso, Sessegnon (Assn) ,
FWD’s – Kane (Club)

There are a number of u21 players in the development squad who may also step up to the first team squad during the season including Parrott, Tanganga, White and others

UEFA Player Designation Summary

The squad shows the number of players designated as :

Overseas Trained (maximum 17) : 16
Club Trained : 4
Trained by other FA Affiliated Club : 2
U21’s – 2 (Foyth, Skipp, )
Total - 24 Players

There's Ace being unhappy whenever other fans disagree with his nonsense.
But he's too damned stupid to know how to say so politely..
