Three games into the league campaign and I'm already running out of superlatives for Lawrence Shankland.

Another brace and he even had the audacity to miss a penalty.

I wasn't at the game so everything I'm putting on here is based on second hand information or from what I've seen from highlights, but it looked a very pleasing afternoon's work in Dunfermline. After a terrific showing against Celtic last week, it's very pleasing to see United take the game by the scruff of the neck and win quite comfortably.

Butcher playing at the back and playing well was good to hear. I've made my thoughts clear on his use of the ball when in midfield and it's interesting that he's played well in the defence. I wonder if it's something Neilson will consider continuing with, particularly given that Harkes has come in and played well in the middle of the park beside Stanton.

Obviously attention now turns to the derby on Friday night and it's a big one, particularly for Dundee. A bit of pressure is on them already after another disappointing result, this time a goalless draw at home to Inverness. It's obviously a sore one for Dundee as their website seemed to print a league table minus the league leaders for some reason.

I cannot wait.

It has been a long time since there has been this much excitement going into a derby. The expectation is all on United obviously so a win for us would be a massive upset. If I was a United fan I don't know if I'd even celebrate winning as it's so expected. You can only be upset really. No win situation. Might as well not go.

No direct trains but the quickest way is to get a train to Inverkeithing and change there. It means you would have to make the 22:13 train back from Dundee as that's the last one that can make a connection in Inverkeithing back to Dunfermline.

I assume you are just taking an extended stay in Dunfermline after the game on Saturday to enjoy the culture and weather and stuff. It's a good base for a holiday, with Glenrothes, Kirkcaldy, Methil etc just a short bus journey away for day trips.
