And to what extent is the league much tougher now?
With all the money available, when you look at the quality of international players that are playing across the league, it's definitely a much higher standard now than it was.
Yes, we are undoubtedly now a worse side, but if you look at where points are being picked up and lost across the league, I think there is a bit of both at play here.
Would you agree?
To what extent are we worse?

Also other clubs bringing in good managers helps. Money + rubbish English managers didn't quite work. Money + good foreign manager now works. Now just need rid of the English players and play the matches abroad and English football will truly be the best it can be.

I think it's really difficult to compare how good the PL is compared to say, 10 - 15 years ago. I think teams are far more organised than they used to be.
TBone is correct though we have to give Ole a good 2-3 years to truly judge, this is a long process. Klopp took 3 years to get Liverpool to the level they are at now. If his strategy is sacrificing success to get rid of the deadwood/surplus to requirements playing staff, throw in a few youngsters and see what we need in the summer, then that is a strategy I can get behind. I said this before that we probably won't get CL football this season before a ball was kicked. What's another season forfeiting success if there is a method behind it.
I think in all three of our games we may have had the youngest XIs each week.

I could add significantly cutting the wage bill in there. It has been a real weight around the clubs neck in order to sign and re-sign players.

The wages are not an issue if we actually saw some return for our investment. Pogba should be given a target of a certain number of shirt sales per season and he has to reach that or he doesn't get paid his full salary. Time for our big players to actually start putting some effort in. Even just one relevant instant gram post per week would help return our investment and make him worth the money.

Teams like Utd, Chelsea and Arsenal just aren't as good as they once were.
City and Liverpool are great sides, and would be in a top 6 or 7 PL sides in history for me. The likes of Utd 99/08, Chelsea 05/06, Arsenal 03/04 are up there with them though.
City and Liverpool are brilliant offensively, but the defences in those sides above were much stronger.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Would this be the same pair of defences that conceded 45 goals between them last season? A better combined total than any single team lower than 4th?

Liverpool also conceded 3 goals away to a poor Barca side.
United and Chelsea managed clean sheets at the Nou Camp against the best side maybe ever.

Its got loads tougher since the days Utd were knocking 9 past Ipswich.

Teams like Utd and Chelsea need to stop hiring and firing and throwing money at the wrong players. They need to assign a manager and give him 3-5 years to build the squad to suit their style. The boards need to be patient with the managers and the managers have to be patient and not just buy players for the sake of it and keep the money until the right player for their system is available
----------------------------------------------------------------------
that seems alot easier said than done tbh
----------------------------------------------------------------------
And is exactly what Liverpool we’re doing before Klopp.

So you're saying we should have stuck with Hodgson?
Kenny was only ever going to be a temporary manager in his 2nd stint and Rogres was there for 3 years
Hardly hiring & firing
