What has happened to the high pressing game with high energy that was so much a feature of the 2016&2017 seasons when we mounted title challenges??
It’s either Poch has abandoned it or the players have given up on it , either way it’s stupid as it was a big part of our success
I also feel Dembele leaving has really impacted our midfield, Sissoko and winks just isn’t gonna cut it
Pressing game

Our league results since Dembele left must make very grim reading.
I'm not sure the players are prepared to put the kind of shift in for Poch that they were a couple of years ago. Its back to the AVB knock it around at a snails pace and hope for the best approach.

It is odd we've gone away from the press. Watching Liverpool it's pretty much their only tactic along with having a rapid front 3.
We play so slowly these days it's easy for the opposition to sit.

We lost a huge part of what made us tick when we lost our pressing game. The best teams in the league utilise the press now and we have left it at the wayside.
Its was part of Poch's philosophy on his arrival but the last time I recollect us utilising it was the 3-1 annihilation of Chelsea at Wembley.
If we are as passive against Arsenal as we have been in recent weeks then it could be a long season for us. It might not be the Arsenal of hold but they still pass the ball very well and anyone who follows us will know how we struggle against any half decent team that can string couple of passes together.

No midfield means no press

Thin squad leads to over working players which leads to more injuries which leads to an even thinner squad
It wasn't just the press that went last season - our xG fell off a cliff at the 70th minute mark and we clearly had nothing left in the tank at the end of last season

This car crash has been coming for months, and everybody has had their head in the sand. Sadly a lot still have.
Spurs went from a midfield of Eriksen, Dele and Dembele to a midfield of Sissoko, WInks and Lamela.

Sissoko, winks and lamela should be 2nd choice
Ndombele, Lo Celso and Dele should be the 1st choice midfield. 2 of these guys are injured and 1 joined late. If sissoko, winks and lamela are our 1st choice according to poch then fair enough sandy we are in a bit of trouble.

Sissoko's deceiving form last season seems to have got him as one of the first names on the team sheet.
Going into the nld away from home we have a far from settled side and poch is liable to pick a side that raises eyebrows again. However after this game I expect that to be the time we pick ourselves up. The disappointing result away to arsenal in the league usually kick starts our form and poch seems to have conceded us to being sheit before the end of the European transfer window closes.

Your team tried to press against City and Poch did this with putting Lamela on Rodri to counter the build up play from City. City build always up in a diamond structure.
Edison
Stones Laporte
Rodri
Pep counter attacked this with instructing Zinchenko to come inside to the centre midfield to make it 2 v 1 against Lamela.
The pressing game was not needed against AV and New Castle as you had most of the possession.
