Lesson Learnt?

Ole selection and tactics have been very very very disappointing
I hope he has learnt from his mistakes today

1) Playing pogba in a midfield 2. This is beyond silly and if this does not stop I reckon we will be bottom half by january. This brings out the worst in pogba and even McT weakness are exposed. Yes matic is a bit of a liability but playing him allows both McT and pogba the freedom to play their natural game.

2)Ole is not pro active. He appears to be a manager that will not take the neccessary steps to avoid an oncoming train. Only reacting after the train has smashed him to bits.

3)why does lingard/mata have to start. Neither are good enough as #10 / rw.

If the 3 above continue, I will take a break from watching utd till January cos I can only imagine more articles like this

What gives you hope?

I never thought there was a magic bullet to fixing utd. It was always going to take time. Unlike any other manager, ole will rightly/wrongly get time from us fans because he understands the culture of the club.

And during this time he might stumble on or find the solutions. The biggest problem atm is midfield imo and we already have a large but unfancied sticking plaster that could at least help till January:

Maguire is a very marginal improvement on Smalling. AWB gives you more of an attacking threat down the right side.

However, any club that can spend £130 million on their defence and still end up with Young and Lindeloffin' in the first team, really has problems of extreme proportions.

you are absolutely correct
i spent the last year saying cb was not the issue but the midfield. We already had decent cbs and imo maguire is only a level above the cbs we already had. It would have taken us getting a van dijk of a cb to improve significantly by just signing a cb

Let's be honest, if it weren't for the fact he once played for the club, he wouldn't have been anywhere near that job.
Crazy decision to employ him in the first place.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
This is it, and united fans were so blinkered by the myth of the united way and he knows the club.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Think he would have been ideal as caretaker, but long term, I'm not so sure.
He always has that 'thankful to have the job' look about him.
United need an experienced respected manager to shake things up at that club, starting with offloading Pogba, and using the money to rebuild that midfield.
Instead they got rid of their only real recognised front man, and didn't bother to replace him.
Some very odd decision making going on at that club.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Who was, and is, available though? It's a slightly different argument with players as there are so many, at so many different levels, that the average football fan can't really know all or even most, so that's where scouts come in.

But if Pochettino really wasn't available - and even he hasn't really proved himself beyond doubt at Spurs - then who? European Cup winners have failed twice now and perhaps a manager who's less set in his ways and who's played for United was the natural next choice.

If you cant beat the likes of palace and the saints. what kinda chance do you have against teams further up in the league?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

We beat Chelsea 4-0. Four games in, it’s too early to make “if x then y” statements like this.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It's not just 4 games in, it's also the 15 games from last season. Just like spurs, continuing a bad run.

This ‘culture of the club’ is overplayed as a concept.
