Was I the only one who felt that Andreas would not be starting that second half? Sir Alex would pull a player at half time without any hesitation if they are not up to it. As I mentioned yesterday, he looks like a pop star playing a soccer aid game. Not even PL quality let alone man united.
Pogba should not be playing deep unless playing a top 6 team. He crested chances when moved forward but was then pushed back to accommodate Jesse lingard our least creative attacker.
Our "best finisher" comes on at 82 mins, what's the point? and rashford was so poor yet finished the game on the pitch.
This is basic stuff he is getting wrong here wtf
Ole not proactive enough

Periera isn't good enough, but the same fans who are now blaming Ole for playing also said they fancied him a year ago.
Pogbaba should be further forward, that's where all of his good work is done. However he is also the only one who initiates counter attacks from deep.
I feel like Ole should have brought greenwood on earlier, he offers us a more direct threat. He should also have love rashford wide when he eventually came on, Rashford simply doesn't have a natural poachers instinct.
Our squad has lots of issues, I'm sure top 4 would be a challenge for any manager.

I'm sorry but I have never ever ever fancied Andreas or asked for him to be played and I have stuck up for youth players a plenty over the years. I was the same with Anderson, no idea what fans saw in him.

i am one of those that wanted pereira to be given a chance to prove whether he was good enough or not, and I stand by my initial assessment.
he has not taken the chance thus far. I don't expect he will be more than a squad player now but at the same time he has been badly mismanaged imo. Like pogba he is being asked to play a role that does not suit his strengths but exposes his weaknesses
pereira is a attacking minded cm but he has been played out of position time and time again.

Unless it was Greenwood for Rashford, a sub right after the red card would’ve been too risky.
For me it’s too early, Ole had already used 2 Subs before the Red.
And you can’t play both strikers at the moment, until Martial is back.
But he should’ve unleashed Pogba and switched the Mid around.

I feel a bit sorry for Pereira having to play a position he just doesn't look comfortable in.
Along with Pogba playing such a withdrawn role, starting Pereira out wide is fast becoming one of Ole's biggest mistakes.
He adds virtually nothing in a wider role. He's not good enough to be starting week in week out but if you're going to use him, use him right. Play him centrally and let him get on the ball as he's probably one of our better players at handling the ball while under pressure which doesn't say a lot because of how poor we are in general at keeping possession and building play but it's something.
I wouldn't mind Fred being introduced again soon to see if he can find any sort of form because he at least shows some urgency in his play and usually tries to pass forward.
We just can't go on setting up the way we are because it's causing us more harm than good.

I completely forgot about Fred. As for Andreas I could be wrong but I got the impression he wanted to play on the right. He was talking about wanting to become the new Beckham at the start of the season. Ole still ultimately at fault for persisting with him there though.

The new Beckham 🤣
He’s not good enough to be the new DjembaDjemba

As others have said, the 4-2-3-1 system isn’t working because we don’t have the right balance and quality of players in the central midfield positions.
Ole should revert to the 4-3-3 or a diamond variation of it if we want more central creativity.
I agree that Ole has been slow to change things - Greenwood should have come on as soon as they went a man down. He had no time to get into the game but still managed to carve out a good effort for himself.

Oh and Pereira needs to play central or not at all. Would have like to see Fred & Gomes as they’d change the dynamic as bit.

Hopefully ole will learn from his mistakes. I agree that given the right quality, we would do OK, but we still need the ability to proactive and not reactive when these situations occur.

Greenwood should've been introduced instead of Lingard when he came on.
This is what's worrying me a little about Ole at the moment. After all his pandering about our young players he's not yet followed through with what he's said he'll do. It's still very early in the season of course and maybe he's waiting until the League Cup starts before unleashing them more but I still hoped he'd have shown a bit more faith in them than what we've seen so far because from what we've seen and as we already knew full well anyway, the alternatives aren't any better.
He's still taking the easy decision and playing Lingard, Mata and Matic.
I said last season and I still maintain that I'm willing to take a longer term view of things but that always came with the caveat of the young players getting a proper chance and given the lack of business done in the summer, that applies even more now.
He needs to start showing more bravery in his decisions and start Greenwood or bring him on earlier than he has been doing instead of the likes of Lingard and Mata and give Chong, Gomes and Garner a chance off the bench.
I very much doubt this season will end up much better than last if it does at all but if Ole is at some stage in a situation where he does lose his job, if he does put his full trust in the youngsters at least it'll have been via means which most of us could get right behind.

The lack of quality is still by far the most glaring problem, especially in midfield and on the right wing.
.....
TRS
This is something we can not do anything about until January.
What the manager can do something about is stop this nonsense of playing Pogba in a midfield 2. Whilst we don't have adequate midfielders we need to use the ones we have much better than we are.
We also need to use the squad better. And lastly in line with the OP, as a manager you should change things up when they are clearly not working. Pereira is quite clearly not good enough at this level.

I know but it's still by far our biggest issue overall, whether we can do anything about it now or not.

Problem, is there are just too many in the squad that shouldn't be in the starting line-up at all.
Currently only Mata and Pogba are united quality forwards (although James has the right experience to make a difference).
To be frank, the list of players suitable for starting would be restricted to smalling, jones, Maguire, shaw, pogba and mata. Which kind of leaves 5 question marks on the team sheet.
Awful situation.
