Planning ahead

With Eriksen staying now atleast for the short term ( good news ) its time to start planning behind the scenes for his impending departure. Unless we get a silly offer in Jan, it’s pretty obvious he will be going on a free now next summer like Ramsey. I am fine with this as it means we get to keep Eriksen for another season and hopefully he can help us by going out on a high. We let his contract run down, so we have only ourselves to blame.

We must plan on his departure though and look to getting in a replacement straight away. I’m hoping we go back in for Dybala as he would be perfect, but I’m not convinced we can prize him away from Juventus. That being said no excuses now, we got all year to think of a plan to replace Eriksen next season.

I don’t want Levy waiting until deadline day next summer. He must sort out a replacement the moment Christian leaves next summer and Giovanni Lo Celso is not a replacement. Hopefully he will be a quality player and little what I have seen so far, he looks pretty decent, but we always needed more than just Lo Celso if Eriksen goes.

The transfer window has gone up a notch now we have kept our players so I’m content with that. We have a much better squad now, although in the words of chronic “ The Right back situation is a joke" , I couldn’t agree more. We are scrimping and scraping with different right backs and it’s ridiculous .

Eriksen staying and not signing a new deal isn’t great news IMO. Yes he’s a quality player, but I’m not convinced we’ll get the best of him with his mind and body more focused on his next move, and the club has just kissed goodbye to any transfer fee. With 2 years on his contract CE is a £75m player and we’re gonna watch him walk for Jack Sheite.

Who cares Ace. He will knuckle down and fight for the team now he knows the situation. If Eriksen would of left without us replacing him, it would of been an absolute disaster. You have seen how poor we have looked without him ? Keep him this season and bite the bullet by losing him on a free, it’s just the way it is. Get in a top quality replacement next summer.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

We haven’t exactly been pulling up any trees with him Don. I think at this stage of his contract he was worth more to us in sales revenue than in performances, as that money could be reinvested into new players.

No, but he was the reason why we beat Aston Villa mate. We looked toothless until he come on and changed the outlook. Arsenal might of been a scrappy goal, but he was still there at the right time. Eriksen is key for us this season and he must be kept at all costs, if it means losing him on a free next summer then so be it.

Depending on which Italian media outlet you believe, some mention talks of Dybala might resume in Jan. Of course, the truth in regards to Bruno Fernandes is finally out the fact that Spurs made multiple attempts to get him and he had accepted us, but his club stopped all moves of the player away from the club.

There is also the chance that Eriksen will sign now and that will be the end of that for now.

I know this team can only get stronger and looking at the "pundits" and opposition fans, in some quarters they are beginning to write Spurs off. It is a good time to bookmark some of the rubbish I have seen here against Spurs in general and Poch in particular.

Some teams have had really nice and easy start to the season, whereas Spurs played City, the current and future champions of the league away to City and Arsenal and again away to Arsenal. Arsenal on of the big spenders of the transfer window, no less.
In the face of this fixture list, not getting beaten by last year's top 6 is a massive plus and shows some grit and fighting spirit, if nothing else.
Spurs will go on a run soon

He will sign a pre-contract agreement with Real or Juve in January, clubs who will be licking their lips at getting him on a free. GLC will be established by then, and we will see Poch phase Eriksen out and use him as a squad player from then on. We know Poch’s attitude when it comes to commitment, and if Eriksen has effectively signed for another club he will fall down the pecking order. If anyone thinks we’re gonna get a full season of prime Eriksen they are mistaken, not that the Euro window has closed the writing is on the wall.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Although he will need to perform to a certain level should Denmark qualify for the Euros.

As good a player as he is the national team will not want one of their main stars warming his clubs bench prior to a major tournament so it will be in his interests to perform when picked.

I get your point though.

We could easily of lost Eriksen for 35/40 mil because of his contract situation. Therefore we might as well rinse one more season out of him and providing he puts a shift in its the better option.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Fingers crossed..... coz other than 20 mins vs Villa.. he's been pretty average

I agree, hopefully now that we all know where we stand he will start playing properly again.

One positive is that Eriksen should be in line to have a good season as he will probably play outta his skin to keep himself under the radar of a big club.

Coutinho was excellent for us when he wanted to leave.

Question is, will Poch play him enough?

This Eriksen saga is not yet finished.
Some managers might hesitate to invest in a player who holds his clubs to ransom.
He said he wanted Real Madrid.....but Real want Pogba.
Does he want to go to Italy...... and would Juve be interested?
If not, would he be willing to go to a club like Napoli or Roma?
Levy has offered him the same pay as Kane.
Is that offer still on the table?

I think Eriksen may box himself into a corner where the clubs he wants don't want him.
And Levy may come out smelling like roses.
Roll on January ...We'll see won't we?

So. This summer, most agreed that what was needed was RB, CM x2 and a forward.

Next summer, what will be needed is... RB, CB x2, AM and a forward.

Not a great window.
