Spurs Team & Squad

On paper, we're looking quite strong:

First XI
Lloris

KWP
Toby
Verts
Rose

NDombele
Winks
Eriksen

Alli
Kane
Son

Bench/squad
Gazzaniga
Sanchez
Aurier
Davies
Sessegnon
Foyth
Sisokko
Dier
Lo Celso
Lamela
Moura
Parrott
Skipp
Wanyama

Options here look very strong. A bit of time needed for some to settle in.

We need to build confidence and some consistency (not the sort of consistent crap of the last 15 games, winning consistency), where we get the bread and butter results without too many dramas and where we have carefully rotated the team. We then need to perform better than we have in the past in the big games (top 6 mini-league) and the difficult derbies.

In the past our strength has come from the midfield. Effectively shielding the defence while also controlling the game. Some of our best form was with Dier & Dembele & Eriksen - We should be able to get back to this with Ndombele, Winks & Eriksen.

Part of our problem has been not putting away defensive teams, giving them hope and making it hard for ourselves - We need better tactics and shape in these games, more intensity, more movement up front, more dynamism.

If feel that when Poch first came we began working and pressing a lot harder as a team, but it was clear that you cant go 100% all game every game, you burn out. So we have been more selective and while we have been at 100% in some of the bigger games, we've are generally more patient in the bread and butter games, expecting our possession and quality to win through in the end. This is failing, we need to get back to working 100%, really taking it to teams early, giving them no hope or foot in the game, getting early goals, and then we can ease back a bit, control things, be patient. We have the quality and squad now to keep energy levels up.

Lets hope things settle down now, get a few injured back and start to make strides with a very decent squad!

on paper we look strong. on the pitch we look like a steaming pile of cack, and have done for about 8 months now
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It'll pick up now
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I dont get why everyone keeps saying this ? Theres clearly a CL defeat hangover. Wer have made 3 new signings who have made a combined total of 2 starts, we have been crap for 9 months, the stadium has made no impact and all the contract issues are unresolved. I hopeful of a pick up but in no way expecting one. Instead of Poch grumbling about instability we now are likely to have players frustrated that they didn't get their moves...Eg. Eriksen & Rose
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Im confused - have we been crap for the last 9 months or were we fine before the CL final and now we're suffering a hangover?

Last season our squad was fundamentally flawed which led to consistently poor performances.

Picking up points whilst playing as poorly as we were playing is unsustainable, so towards the end of the season the wheels fell off.

We have *theoretically* addressed the major cause for the poor performances by signing two 50 million pound midfielders.

When your issues come down to personnel, and those issues require new personnel, and new players need time, you have to give it time.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I don't disagree... all I'm saying is that I don't think things are all "roses" now the window has closed and we have an Intl break. I don't know that GLC & NDombele are gonna be amazing signings, & will Sessegnon prove he can cut it in the Prem ? As for the rest, the defense is getting older and most of the attackers can be wildly inconsistent as proven by their ability to win the big game over the past few years...... We'll see... Fingers crossed
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Plus we don't seem to be able to keep clean sheets like we did a while back

Glad to see you've changed your tune

Totally agreed. We have to be patient.

It won't be that long before Lo Celso and Ndombele start adding massive differences to our chances of top 4, and I predict by mid Nov we shall start reaping some rewards and most likely be in a healthy state by the time, the business ends starts for this season.

The one item on the agenda is getting Eriksen/Toby/Verts to sign and for that we need to revise what's been offered to them and offer them a deal that would suit them and us

Maybe not in so many words, but you did join the chorus of people who were moaning about our signings not hitting the ground running and moaning why others, mainly Arsenal have bought players who are already playing, yet Lo Celso isn't.

That is for me same as saying that our signings don't need time and being impatient. I am not havong a go but I welcome your last comment.

We forget how much our club has to deal with, not least the inequality in richness between us, Chelsea, City, United and even Liverpool. They all have sufficient ability to go out and spend and spend. Spurs have risen from almost nothing to challenge them and thus we need to be patient. In five years of charge, Spurs have established top 4 solidly - the one of two sides to be in top 4 for 5 years running , other than City, and Spurs have achieved at least semi-finals on most than one occasion and a final of CL.

When we played the C L final, it was one between those who spent crazy amount in transfer market, and those who hardly spent anything. Now that we have the stadium worthy of the team, we can start looking at refreshing the side and start getting into finals and hopefully winning things. Spurs have been doing it the right way - while others have taken shortcuts to glory.

Ndombele will make a massive difference....place him in the 2 or 3 promising positions that Sisokko found himself in at the weekend and you'll expect much better quality than the panic of Sisokko.
