Well Churchill was responsible for 10million deaths in the Bengal famine alone.

Agree Churchill was a nasty piece of work but to compare him to Hitler was a bit OTT
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Were did you dig up the figure of 10m? Official figures are closer to 3m at the maximum!

And it's a bit dramatic to put the sole responsibility for it directly on his shoulders. His cabinets policies such as the failure of humanitarian aid (due to a shortage of shipping during wartime), prioritising of rations for the military fighting the Japanese have been given as a contributing factors but other causes are also quoted. The fall of Burma to the Japanese cutting off the supply of rice, crop disease have all been cited.

Whatever the cause, to attempt to compare it with the combined deliberate atrocities of the Stalin Regime and Third Reich in numbers and brutality are preposterous!

We're all grownups here. Many of the same people we laud as national heroes were nothing more than genocidal maniacs.

Winston Churchill has more blood on his hands than Hitler and Stalin combined. A bloodthirsty racist zealot who dedicated his entire adult life to the excesses of Imperialism, over and above the call of duty.

He is guilty of every single thing we accused the Third Reich of, and then some.

The colonial-apologist tripe on this thread betrays a complete lack of self awareness.

🤣 what a complete and utter moron you are.

Perhaps he exaggerated but he makes a solid point.

You can debate whether Churchill was as bad as the others but you can't debate the rest.

No he doesn't make a solid point at all.

His point is that Churchill has as more blood on his hands as Hitler and Stalin combined - which even the most historically illiterate person will see through.

I think he's just after a bit of attention myself!

There is no debate, the fact you think it’s even worth debating proves you’re not worth debating with.

Churchill was a man of the times, I’m in no doubt 99% of the British population had a similar mindset to him, and even though I disapprove of some of his actions I’m grateful he was our leader at the time (as should you be) and not bleeding Chamberlain.

I agree with some of this too but this is ridiculous

"Churchill was a man of the times, I’m in no doubt 99% of the British population had a similar mindset to him,".

So what? I could say the same about Hitler or many others because no doubt majority of the Na zi population had a "similar mindset to him". That doesn't mean its OK.

Just takes a bit more maturity to understand that every story has a side B and to be honest to yourself. History is history and it can't change to fit your idealistic scenario.

I think I get what he is saying, even if it's not a very good analogy.

The German people suffering from the effects of depression of the German economy were ripe for a dictator who could brainwash them and lead them to believe a specific group of the population were responsible for their woes.

It's still on a completely different level to the population of the major Cities of the UK who would have had little knowledge of a growing tragedy on a Sub Continent 1,000s of miles from them, who's major concern was surviving the Luftwaffe's attempt to bomb them out of existence and the worry of German invasion!

Times have changed and so have the attitudes of the global population now we have the technology to know information from around the world within hours of events happening!

Retorts like this are expected from people who have no clue and believe the sanitised version of history fed to them. Ironic that this guy uses the term brainwashed, because that's what he is.

Stating facts about some of these topics is bound to elicit such a reaction from a percentage of the population.
