De Gea has signed a new contract according to Duncan Castles.
De Gea has signed a five year (four years + option for an extra year) contract renewal worth €15m per year, making him #mufc's best paid player #mulive [duncan castles]
If this is true then I’m over the moon because for me he’s still the best keeper in the world. A few months of bad form in a single season doesn’t destroy six years of greatness and now that he’s reaching his peak I fully expect him to come back into form.
#mufc squad against Leicester: De Gea, Romero, Grant, Wan-Bissaka, Lindelof, Maguire, Tuanzebe, Jones, Young, McTominay, Matic, Andreas, Fred, Mata, Gomes, Chong, Greenwood, Rashford, James #mulive [men]
Gomes, Chong, Greenwood and AWB all travel.
De Gea and squad for tomorrow

I don't get how people still think he is the best in the world. He's arguably not even the best in Manchester.

I do think that a lot of DDG's awful mistakes have been due to his head not being entirely on the game. But if he had signed a new contract, I think the club would have announced that.
As it stands, we have a once stand out keeper, arguably the best around who has cost us far more points than he's gained us since the start of last season. Until that contract is signed and sealed, I expect that to continue, right up til he signs for someone else in Jan.
I don't think he's deliberately throwing goals in. But I do think his focus has gone, he's distracted and that if he decides to go elsewhere in Jan, on a free contract, he'll have a bit to answer for

This is true
Without United tinted glasses he's been off form so long it should be considered more than a mere dip and instead a regression.
He could over time build his rep back up though, age is on his side

That’s a seriously dodgy squad

His teams style of play affects how good he is...shot stopping is only one of the major aspects of a GK's job nowadays.

For me, De Gea gets easily beaten at the near corner far too often. A keeper should not be so easily vulnerable at the near corner. A player should earn the pay increase and United finishing 6th and outside of top 4, doesn’t signify that players “deserve” pay increase? Collectively the whole team is underperforming so how he gets a deserves a increase? I think United are blinded in their valuation of players. De Gea has a great shot stopping ability but lacks the presence to command the defense, seems shaky when crosses come in from the wings and like I said that goal he conceded against Palace for me that’s just school boy error fir a keeper of such a high esteem.
On top of all this, he’s not a modern keeper like Ederson with distribution of the ball.

For United fans he's the one player who's done well during much (although not all) of the post Fergie slide into relative mediocrity. Much like when Adnan Januzaj performed well, because he was a rare shining light in a very dark period he was overrated to stratospheric levels.
DDG who has genuinely been excellent at times is United fans last player they can claim to be of top quality (personally I rate Pogba quite highly but most United fans don't seem to). Admitting to themselves that DDG is no longer a world class player - meaning they have none - is too much when the likes of Liverpool and City have so many top players

De Gea is a world class keeper. His head doesn't seem to be in the right place but this seems to be a bit common for him. LVG dropped him until a transfer window closed and he signed a new contract. Some players do get distracted by things off field that affect their game.
If he signs, we'll see a keeper return to his best. That doesn't take away from the mistakes he made but he hasn't been as bad as some would make out. When a team. Performs well, the GK or individual mistakes can be glossed over. Such is United's state (I'll say we're in a place a bit like when Klopp first took over at Liverpool) we need De Gea or any replacement GK to be world class consistently and for 90 Mins each match they play.
Our biggest issue hasn't been fixed, which is the midfield and this will and has cost us games already. Our penalty record this season isn't good either.

Probably for the same reason Liverpool fans think all their players are the best in the world.
Stupidity.
DDG is among the best in the world though.
