Fred

Would like to see this guy given a proper run in the side.

Thought he looked decent when he came on at the weekend.

He had a poor first season no doubt but there were glimpses of quality and I also thought he was treated unfairly by both Jose and Ole at times.

For instance he’d get an opportunity and maybe have a good game and keep his place but then the following game have a poor game or make a mistake and get hauled off not to be seen for 2-3 weeks.

No player can build a rhythm like that.

I’d give the guy 10 or so games in a row and see what he is made of. It’s not our other midfielders are pulling up any trees.

We will have to agree to disagree on that on Baz.

Fair enough. Struggling really to think of one good Anderson game, where I can think of a few with fletch.

.......

He had a run of them at the start of the season where we beat Arsenal 8-2.

Probably the last time we played superb attacking football. We won the first five games scoring 21 goals. Spurs, Arsenal and Chelsea were in those five games.

This Mr Brightside fella is RDD right?

Obviously, yes.

Bloody hell Im gullible.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
From what I've seen, he's so far managed to refrain from being an utter prat this time to be fair. I'm sure it wont be long though.

He's been telling me there is not much between Fabinho and Fred so that looks to be over.

And yet I still can’t think of Anderson really impressing me that much then.with fletch he was superb at times, especially big games. Anderson for me was always overrated.

Anderson had mad talent.

So did Adel Taarabt.

Id have played Fletcher too.

Anderson: looked superb at first. Thought he’d be a mainstay of our midfield for years. Faded badly and became more of a cult figure, albeit with patches of promising or very good form. Injuries obviously a factor.

Fletcher: couldn’t work out what he was supposed to be for a while. Started to come into his own when competition was fiercest and we arguably had four midfielders you’d play ahead of him on paper. Had a great couple of seasons between 08 and 10. Was consistently good even against top teams.

Anderson could or should have been superior but in terms of their United careers I’d say Fletcher was far better.

A wasted talent. Fred has a remarkable ability to intercept the ball and pass it quickly. I can't help thinking that if Guardiola had Fred, he would turn into a pearl.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Well, I don't know which Fred you've been watching - he sounds excellent - but the one we have has a remarkable ability to charge after the ball, vacate space he'd be better off marshalling, not get anywhere near the player in possession, and when he does get the ball, play rushed passes to absolutely no one who is actually on his team.

*But*, he does bring a bit of urgency and does at least try to move things quickly - if imprecisely. So I'd like to see him get given a run finally and see if he can actually adapt to the speed of the PL. I'm doubtful, but I've seen enough of our current midfielders to know that it can't get much worse.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Your assessment of Fred's ability is based on how many games ? What I find worrying is Ole's obsession with English academy players. Lingard and Rushford can play ten poor games in a row and still start, but it takes Fred one poor halftime and he is dropped.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Absolutely every single second he's played for United, including his brief appearances during two pre-seasons now, plus two matches for Shaktar.

Unless you're a religious student of the Ukrainian game, I highly doubt you've watched him as much as I or many posters on here have.

lost confidence in him last season, looked like he struggled to stay upright when dribbling the ball, would love for him to have a really good season this year but not much evidence that it will happen

Good to see that Fred has had some minutes as I’d genuinely started to wonder if he featured in Solskjaer’s plans. If he can produce a few good performances in an area we’re short, he’ll be like - I’m going to say it - he’ll be like a new signing.
