Gomes is one of those players a really like watching, proper baller. Hope Ole is just easing him in rather than not rating him as highly.

We lack players that can take the ball on the turn like he does and quickly start an attack.

Last night we had three free kicks around the box that were all fouls on Gomes. He has really quick feet.

He offers so much more around the box than Lingard does.

This season is about figuring out who is good enough to keep. Ole has already made 3 good signings.

These type of selection issues will actually help us long term.

He actually WANTS to pass forwards as well and doesn’t puzzy out of the responsibility of doing so.

The team in the OP looks good to me

I think the only question marks might be whether Matic and Mata start in place of Fred and Gomes.

Fred hasn’t had much game time. I wonder how much Thursday night might’ve taken out of him.

Get him and James in the same team and we’ll have a free-kick every couple of minutes.

It’d be great for once to go a season without loads of injuries.

I have no idea what you were watching but McT and Matic were comfortably our two best players yesterday.

They moved the ball forward quickly, directly and carefully completing 85% of their passes - the best figures in the side. Matic was dispossessed twice the entire game.

Both midfielders got up and down well, and attacked and defended competently. They looked as dangerous as any of our forwards around the box (which tbf wasn’t difficult, because three of the four of them at least were terrible), and didn’t let West Ham dominate the midfield despite once again being at a numerical disadvantage.

Who performed better for us than Matic other than McT?

You can’t rewrite history just because you don’t like the player VC.
