It's amazing the difference a week can make. Coming out of the Arbroath game last Saturday you couldn't help but feel we'd robbed the Red Lichties of the points. There's no doubt they deserved something from the game but a smash and grab late double from Shankland stole the points.

There was no such feeling this week after a sensational performance from the Terrors and we absolutely destroyed Morton.

All the headlines naturally went to that man Shankland. Some are talking about international recognition, while I see this morning some sections of the press are even talking about him being watched by the Old Firm. Pinch of salt stuff, but his goal-scoring prowess is unmatched.

It actually worked out as 4 goals in 9 minutes of play for Shankland after his 88th and 90th minute goals against Arbroath, as he followed it up with a goal inside the first minute, a cross from McMullan which the defender completed missed to allow Shankland to slot home at the back post, and then a sliding finish from a Pawlett cross from the left on 5 minutes after wonderful play in the midfield and down the left.

For me it was that first five minutes that won the game and credit has to go to the manager for that. He made changes to the team but importantly he tinkered with the tactics. Morton were set up for us to play down our right but with Sporle getting a start at left midfield we played predominantly down that side and we saw McMullan tucking in a lot, and it surprised the Ton. We capitalised in style.

After that it was a procession to be honest. McMullan was in devastating form and got the third after a sliding clearance from the excellent Liam Smith allowed the winger to capitalise on the disorganised Morton defensive line and run through to score.

The best goal of the afternoon came early in the second half and it was that man Shankland. He picked the ball up wide left on the half way line and drove into the box and away from the defender before slotting into the net (via a deflection). Magnificent. McMullan increased the lead later in the half with another driving run into the box and it was again McMullan who picked out Chalmers with a great cross to seal the win.

I do have to say though that this was a dreadful Morton performance. The early goals killed them and they capitulated. They could be in trouble this year.

Player ratings:

Siegrist - 6 - had nothing to do
Watson - 7 - solid performance and showed he's a good back up
Brown - 8 - I thought he had an excellent game. Strong and aggressive and dealt with everything
Reynolds - 7 - A good performance from the skipper
L.Smith - 9 - pushed to left back after Robson's injury which will keep him out for six weeks. I thought he was outstanding.
McMullan - 10 - Man of the match for me. Unplayable.
Butcher - 8 - shielded the defence very well and dominated the midfield.
Harkes - 8 - as with Butcher, dominated the midfield
Sporle - 7 - started brilliantly but faded as the game wore on. A good performance though and something to build on.
Pawlett - 8 - ran the show in the first half but fell out of the game in the second half. Good to see him show up.
Shankland - 10 - what's left to say about the big man? 13 league goals in 7 appearances says it all and another match ball.

All in all a very good afternoon and we look forward to Friday nights BBC Scotland live match away at Alloa.

boys an absolute walloper

A lot of boys on this thread are wallopers. You'll have to narrow it down.

At least we don't have to play you in the play offs. So from now on we are no longer rivals this season.

How long do you think they'll persevere with the current management team if you don't start getting wins?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Just depends on when a former player with next to no managerial experience becomes available to replace McPake. We have the players at least. Dorrans was playing close to centre back on Friday just to get the ball.

I've rarely seen a player consistently get in the right place at the right time
=======

Footballers are not known for being intelligent.
The ultimate talent imho is knowing where to be at the right time, I think you're just born with it.
