A couple of stories emerged over the weekend. Alvarez has left the club and Ole has appointed a 'personal scout'.
Manchester United have confirmed goalkeeping coach Emilio Alvarez has left the club.
Alvarez joined United in 2016 having mentored David de Gea during the formative years of the Spaniard's career at Atletico Madrid.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said: “I would like to thank Emilio for all his help and hard work since my return to the club. We all wish him well for the future."
Alvarez said: “I will always be proud of belonging to this club. Wishing you every success in your endeavours."
United appointed Richard Hartis as the club's senior goalkeeping coach in June and a press release issued by the club at the time confirmed he would work alongside Alvarez rather than replace him.
However, that partnership has lasted just three months and Alvarez becomes the final member of the coaching staff employed by former United manager Jose Mourinho to leave the club.

Simon Wells
Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer 'has appointed a personal scout to take care of the club's transfer targets.'
The Norwegian has asked Simon Wells from the club's recruitment team to closely assess players who could strengthen his under-achieving squad.
According to The Sun, the move comes with the blessing of the United hierarchy as they continue their search for a director of football.
The pair know each other well from his time as manager of Molde in Norway because Wells was United's scout in the Scandinavia region at the time.
It was Wells who helped secure the signing of Swedish centre half Victor Lindelof from Benfica in 2017.
He was also one of the first to scout Portuguese sensation Joao Felix at Benfica before he made the £113million move to Atletico Madrid in the summer.

Reason to steer clear then.

It is mind boggling how you can scout a CB and think he will succeed in the prem when he wouldn't be able to win a 50/50 header in Japan where the average male is 5'7' high.

I think Lindelof will come good against certain opposition. Arsenal tonight should be a game suited to him (I've probably jinxed it now).
Southampton, Palace aren't the games for him. I'm surprised Smalling was the CB to be let go as he would have fared better and had a good chance of stopping those 2 goals.

Probably Smalling was the one to go because he was the only one any other clubs showed a serious interest in. After signing Maguire we needed to sell/loan out so it was probably logical that he went.

I had no idea that Smalling went to Roma.

Smalling came out at the weekend as a vegan.
I think that alone was reason enough to let him go.
