Top 10 Attackers in the League

I had an argument with Chelsea fan at the start of the season, that we would finish higher than them simply because of the quality of our forwards. He made a case about them possessing some cracking youngsters which I agree with and they have played some beautiful football this season.

Anyway staying on topic this is my top 10 list of attackers in the Premier league. You could look at things purely on stats but you must legislate for the fact that a city player is more likely to score more goals than an Arsenal player. Ian Wright put it well this season that there is so much moaning about Aubameyangs stats against the Top 6 clubs but nobody ever bothers to check the actual chances he gets.

Here is my list mainly based on last season and a bit of this season.

1. Sadio Mane (Liverpool)
2. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (Arsenal)
3. Harry Kane (Tottenham Hotspur)
4. Sergio Aguero (Manchester City)
5. Raheem Sterling (Manchester City)
6. Mo Salah (Liverpool) Should probably be in the top 5 but something isnt right with him, so unsure with himself lately and makes more wrong choices with every passing game. Will still score loads though due to the chances he gets. He almost has a free role at liverpool and doesn't track back exposing Trent but I can understand why Klopp does that as he has the ability to end games very quickly.
7. Son Heung-min (Tottenham Hotspur) - Might have few goals in him but as a pure attacker he is deadly
8. Alexandre Lacazette (Arsenal)
9. Roberto Firmino (Liverpool)
10. Leroy Sane (Manchester City)

No surprise that Liverpool and City dominate the list. Vardy and James Maddison are unlucky to miss out but I am still not convinced if you put them in the Top 6 they would deliver.

No Chelsea or United player in there. Is this unfair and does it point to anything this season?

As an unbiased fan of my own club, unlike some on this article, I would say that Kane has been overtaken by a few in the past year or 2. Aguero, Mane, Salah, Sterling, and Aub are ahead of him currently, purely on an attacking basis. The variety of their goals, their lethalness, setting up others in the area. Kane's form has declined a bit as an attacker, mainly because he drops too deep, and yes it does feel like he's been reliant on penalties to boost his stats lately.

As a player though I wouldn't like to say he's behind them because other parts of his game such as his hold up play and ability to pick out a pass are often top notch, and it's not like he's that far behind the others when going forward, just not as good as HE used to be a couple of years ago.

I remember after Kanes breakthrough season someone asked if they could, should Uniyed buy him for £40m.
Pretty much everybody scoffed at the idea.

Fast forward and he has outscored everyone over the last 5 seasons.

Aguero should be ahead of any striker on the list imo, after that you can pick your favourite between auba, kane and Firminho, but that's all subjective.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Kane outscores Aguero over the past five years.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
per game?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Kane further down in that list. Although I suppose there is the argument if he played for a City or Liverpool..
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Kane is playing for a far inferior side to City. If he was playing for City, you could have added perhaps another 20 or so goals, and Aguero had he been playing for Spurs maybe take off 20 goals.

Aubameyang does well, but three of those seasons were in a far inferior league. Not hard to score goals in the german league.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Debetable in that Aguero has played for more average City sides over the past 9 years, and his stats haven’t really faltered. Kane on the other hand, big stage?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Why do people say this? Look at his Champions League record and record against the big six. It's as good as anyone's.

Not really, could of put England into the World Cup final had he looked up a few times in the semi. Again. Big stage.

As for his top record being as good as anyone’s, that’s b0llocks for starters. Messi has a better record against England’s top 6 and he doesn’t even play in the same league 🤣

Kane, as is spurs, has a poor record on the big stage. He will score against a top 6 team in november, but not in a big crunch game. Even if he doesnt it'll be a pen or something. He's a fantastic finisher, but there are still question marks for me whether to as he will be in the top bracket of strikers once it's all said and done, like aguero inevitably will be.
You don't get much a bigger moment than that qpr goal

I can only comment on when I’ve watched him, which is probably more than most would expect as I watch Spurs more often than most non spurs fans probably do due to family....

He’s never torn up trees against us, think he’s actually only scored one or two against City in half a dozen seasons.

Messi is a few levels up from Kane to be fair..

Kane does have the advantage of a minimum of 10 games per season against the top 6 though 🤷‍♂️
