It's a complete joke. A 12 year old could write articles more accurate than what some of the 'experts' chuck into existence. Just have a look at this for example:
https://www.westsussextoday.co.uk/sport/football/rumour-has-it-psg-star-to-tottenham-and-manchester-united-line-up-140m-swoop-for-england-duo-1-9104702
So called 'Head of Sports' apparently has heard a rumour that PSG want Eriksen in January and are willing to offer Rabiot in exchange. The same Rabiot who joined Juventus on a free transfer?!
And there are plenty of mugs out there doing the same

when it's this bad surely their should be some level of accountability?
Newspapers and TV news spout utter nonsense every single day, at least football BS is largely harmless I guess

Give them a bit of credit though. They did change the URL!

‘Rumour has it’ implies there is some weight to it, however tenuous
At least get the facking club right. What an utter moron

It doesn't at all mean that anymore. With the advent of social media, most of the "news" is made up, i.e. fake.
Fake news sell. Most of the sporting news is also speculations and rumours, that have very little to do with the truth but a lot to do with guess work.
It is also a lot to do with click baiting.
People will read anything if it grabs their attention and right now, Spurs fans would read anything that has Eriksen written in the headline.

Don't get me wrong, I hate it when something wiuld grab my attention then when you look for the source, you see it is "rumour" based. In other words, no actual truth in it.
It used to be that a rumour is based on speculation which is based on some truth. But now, the content creators in the social media arena, inc journalists, are very liberal in how they produce content and less stringent about being "truthful".

Morespurs.
Juventus wanting to swap Rabiot for Eriksen is a rumour
PSG wanting to do that is a complete joke and nothing close to a rumour
