Euro 2020 Qualifying Update

After the first round of October fixtures some teams have qualified, some have been eliminated and some have messed up their first chance.

Group A
England blew the chance to qualify on Friday night, but a victory on Monday in Bulgaria will seal their place.
Kosovo host Montenegro needing a win to reignite their challenge.

Group B
Ukraine just need a point, or Serbia to drop one, to qualify. They face second placed Portugal tomorrow, who are 4 clear ahead of 3rd placed Serbia.
Serbia go to Lithuania desperate for 3 points, and hoping Ukraine win.

Group C
After the Dutch left it late to beat Northern Ireland, the group is in the hands of the big two. Netherlands go to Belarus and Germany to Estonia, with both knowing a win will put them 3 clear of the Irish with 2 games left.

Group D
Ireland missed a big chance to put points between themselves and the Swiss after their draw with Georgia and Switzerlands defeat to Denmark yesterday. The two meet on Tuesday night with Ireland knowing a win will secure a Euro 2020 place. Defeat and Denmark and Switzerland will look in a strong position.

Group E
A big night tonight sees Wales host Croatia and Hungary at home to Azerbaijan.
A Croatia win will leave them in a strong position at the top, but not quite qualified. Wales win draws them level with Slovakia, who sit in second. Hungary will, however, take 2nd with a win.

Group F
Spain missed out on securing their place last night, with a late penalty giving Norway a point.
Tuesday sees second place Sweden host Spain while Romania, 3rd, host Norway (4th). Spain will qualify with a win.

Group G
Poland will qualify tonight if they beat North Macedonia and Slovenia don't beat Austria. It is a tight group, though, with Poland on 16 points, Austria 13, North Macedonia and Slovenia on 11 - so tonights results could turn the group on its head.

Group H
Iceland have fallen behind their two rivals, and are 6 points off the pace. However, while they host Andorra, the top two face off in France on Monday night. The winner of France versus Turkey will be almost guaranteed a place at Euro 2020.

Group I
Belgium, currently beating Kazakhstan, have qualified. Russia will join them if they avoid defeat Cyprus tonight, with the Cypriots the only other team in the group who are still alive, but sit 8 points off second.

Group J
Italy have 7 wins from 7 and are through.
Bosnia hammered second placed Finland to throw the race for second wide open. The Finnish have 12 points, with Armenia and Bosnia on 10. Finland host Armenia on Tuesday while Bosnia go to Greece in what could be a defining night.

PLAY-OFFS
Of course, there is the second chance based on Nations League placings. Scotland. Georgia and Belarus already know they will be in the play-offs. The rest is unclear.

Path D - Georgia and Belarus are confirmed. Kosovo and North Macedonia are still in the fight for automatic qualification. Luxembourg and then Armenia (who could still qualify automatically) are the nations in line to benefit.

Path C- Scotland are guaranteed to be in the play-off. Norway and Serbia will join them, and one of Bulgaria, Israel, Hungary or Romania look most likely to join them.

Path B - Bosnia will definitely be in this set, but wait to know who else will join them. Wales and Northern Ireland would be in this set if things stay the same, but a lot of the other Path B teams are not in strong positions so could all change.

Path A - Currently only Switzerland and Iceland sit outside automatic qualifying positions, and the Swiss are expected to avoid the play-offs. As such, Iceland look likely to face teams from other paths - which could easily include Wales, Northern Ireland and/or the Republic of Ireland.

That's totally unfair. How come we get England when we won't have even qualified properly? We shouldn't get to avoid the top teams and deprive other teams of getting to be in England's group.

Don't worry too much, Scotland won't qualify.

2 games at Hampden against average teams. Not that unlikely

I’ve only just seen what the format is going to be for the finals. It’s seems pretty ridiculous to me, twelve host countries. It’s going to take away the whole atmosphere of the occasion. Part of the magic of these tournaments is the host country embracing the whole tournament and fans of all the participating teams descending onto that country.

Wouldn't know either way mate but I'll take your word for it

Think the format could work very well, tbh. Opens it up for more fans who have never had an international tournament.

I know it's a lower level but wijnaldum has scored another screamer for Holland.

I find that he seems to play within himself for us somehow compared to holland.

Dunno if that's actually the case but it just seems to be
