It’s about perceptions, Unai’s cautiousness is a cause for concern and it’s costing us vital points. We are comfortably poised to put pressure on our rivals but I fear our manager is over cooking things up which reflects badly on our style of play and points lost.
It’s about time he starts playing Tierney and drop the awful Bosnian with no end product although he seems assured in his defending but that’s not enough at this level if we have ambitions to go places.
It’s also about time he shows faith with Martineli the lad is hungry and fearless and never hides. I’ll say he must either drop Xhaka or Guendouzi they can’t function together and let Willock replace either preferably for the slow Swiss.
Finally, it’s about time we play Holding instead of the Greek freak.
Emery has to gamble

I actually don't think Emery's style is the problem or we wouldn't be so dominating in the last few games in the lesser competitions. I think its down to Emery's selection and obviously as pointed out lack of tempo in midfield.

When you said "Bosnian" I assumed you were talking about Kolasinac, but the description after has no relation to him. So who is this defensively assured Bosnian we have?
Talking about dropping Guendouzi ?

Sheffield seem to be very poor at home for some season. Especially compared to some of the heroic displays they've put out when playing away from home.
As much as our lacklustre away record has made me favour a defensive approach, it would be nice to turn up at someone's manor and have a good go at them for once.

Since Emery took over, I can only remember Fulham away as the only decent away performance. Yeah we did well in some other games to get a draw but I can't Remeber any other game away from home where we have played exciting fluent football.
This is a big game for Emery. His negative approach in games has come into question.
We really need to attack on Monday but I fully expect to see a MF of Guendouzi, Xhaka and Torreira

Freddie coached the youngsters until this year and Martinelli hasn't had his brazilian style coached out of him ....yet... That's why the youngsters play with the "handbrake" OFF.
I think the problem is with Emery ..he stifles our attacking instincts but seems incapable of coaching defenders and DMFs on how to defend or track back.
Whatever your position is on Ozil there are games where his nous to produce the killer pass has been sorely missed. It's time that Emery swallowed his pride and played him for parts of games.
For all those idiots shouting but we are 3rd FFS ....I would say we are only half way through October and other teams have started badly. We badly need to improve in all departments and become less reliant on Auba for goals. Also if Real or Man Utd make some crazy offer in January or May I can see our board actually taking the money for Auba.
I'm still not convinced that Emery knows his best team. Any line -up which includes Xhaka is just wrong . He was terrible for Switz against Denmark.

Three decent performances in the very early stages of two cup competitions (ie playing teams you'd EXPECT us to beat) versus 8 very unconvincing performances (out of 8 games played) in the league...
Yup, no problem at all.

We'll either manage a disjointed win, grind out a disjointed draw or suffer a disjointed loss.
The performance will largely be the same, as it will be in home fixtures. The result will depend on either being bailed out up by top strikers or punished by woeful defending or a balance of the two.
Unless things change massively the above is Arsenal under Emery and it's not great at all.

Watford aren't much better than Forest.

And this helps your argument how?! Because you're actually supporting the point I and a number of fans make that we're struggling against poor opposition in the league with unconvincing performances.

We beat Forest 5-0 and played very well. This tells me the issue is not our style as much as some of the personal Emery is selecting to execute that style in the premier league.
Which goes back to my point. We lack tempo in our game in the premier league but have it in lesser competitions. We pass the ball very slowly from defence and too many of our passes are square, instead of forward. For me the main culprit of this is the centre of midfield and specifically Xhaka. For the first time since we signed Torreira we have started to play him in his natural position of holding midfield in lesser competitions and I think thats why we have played far more smoothly. To me this suggests Torreira is far better at playing at a high tempo. The better the tempo of our passing the better we look.
