VAR-What is the point?

Lots of iffy decisions yesterday, KDB being shoved off the ball by the Palace players hands, Vertongens trip on the Watford player had more of an effect on the game than KDB in the City game but both were wrong. If you are not going to overrule a clearly wrong decision why bother having the system?

Agree with you there - there’s a big difference between the tv audience and the ground, although the effect on those at the ground does filter through a little.

Huge issues with the big screen idea of course, but if it were a little more like rugby it may help.

What huge issues do you foresee with the big screen idea? I suppose this would only be practical for PL teams. And of course they can still be disagreement but at least it doesnt have the feeling that you have no idea what's going on.

Yes, the huge issues are some of the grounds where that would be required - difficult to say the least.

I’d be fascinated to see it. You’d like to think that listening to the referee on a mic would mean the crowd find it easier to accept the decision.. but not sure it would actually work out like that.

Disgree, watford players getting to the ball and pulling it back if hes not fouled by vertonghen, which regardless of whether he is or not its a pathetic clumsy challenge by him in the box no excuses for that. If you have to hurdle a bad challenge and lose ball control because of it you shouldnt be getting the pooey end of the stick for it...

Im not sure that would work as football crowds are too partisan for it, I have a feeling it would increase the vitriol towards the referees rather than reduce it.

Really? Have to disagree with you there. I think referees would be more respected and people who don't really understand the laws but shout for everything anyhow would actually become more educated, thus reducing the vitriol.

TOOR, I don’t think it matters how much people are told the laws - often they’ll interpret it to suit themselves because they’re biased.

This is the issue with subjectivity.

Too many fans think that because they view an incident as a foul then an alternative opinion is automatically wrong.

Yes because many decisions are subjective but at least they won't be kept in the dark and understand why it was given, even if some people disagree. That would be better than it is currently and therefore surely reduce confusion and vitriol.

That’s the part id be intrigued to see.

It’d be lovely if you were correct but I somehow doubt it.

To do that though, they'd need to mic up the ref so that the crowd can also hear his rationale. Otherwise, you're risking them rather than disagreeing with something they thought they saw, disagreeing with something they definitely saw.

Yeah. That would be good.
