Foul on Origi?

How can anyone in their right mind think that the 'challenge' from Lindleoff made on Origi was a foul?

Sky have a video of it here: https://twitter.com/SkySportsPL/status/1185952436986494984

The more I watch it, the more pathetic and less of a foul it looks.

It was the lightest touch you'll ever see, not enough to impede even a 10 year olds movement on the ball, yet alone a 6 foot plus fully grown man.

Origi should have been booked for the dive and 30 second roll on the floor that followed.

Honest opinions, what is football becoming if there are people in football that honestly believe the 'challenge' made on Origi was a 100% stonewall foul?

I posted something on Liverpool's board earlier.

How would they feel if they scored a similar goal and for example, Nani, dived to the floor in the same fashion that Origi did?
In no way shape or form would they agree that it was a foul & freekick.

I'd be interested to hear their thoughts.

Are you for real?

This is embarrassing.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
For you, yes.

You still haven't considered that a the VAR official can believe it was a foul but be correct in not giving it, according to the guidance he has been given on what constitutes a clear and obvious error.

It always has to be black and white with you. there are variables.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

You're the one making out it is black and white, not me.

How so? I have said it is a foul. I have also said I don't know whether the VAR official made a mistake or not, as I don't know what guidance they have been given on what a clear and obvious error means. I also don't know if the referee is allowed to overrule him. There are many variables. You're making it black and white, i'm doing anything but.

How am I making it black and white?

Your sentence does that.

Fack me. This is unbelievable.

I think it's the type of challenge that is usually penalised. If a CB challenges the forward from behind and doesn't get the ball, you normally expect a free kick to be given.

Whether it's actually impeded Origi is another matter (he'd lost the ball already in reality), as is whether the contact was enough to get the reaction it did (clearly not).

I don't actually have a major issue with it because we had plenty of opportunity to defend properly after that. However we'll see hundreds of those types of challenges given as a foul every season and fans (myself included) will shout something along the lines of 'FFS he hardly touched him'. Just so happens on this occasion the ref let it go.

First sensible response and fair points.

I would not complain if my team did not get a freekick for a similar challenge though. If it was one of the United players that fell over and feigned injury after that I would be screaming at the TV telling them to get up and play on.

I see the relegation battlers are still going on about this professional foul.

Three former United captains said it was a foul in the space of 24 hours. Yet they have the audacity to create articles on here saying it wasn't.

It didn't even annoy me that much, less that it normally would when a decision costs a goal as I don't think it did cost us the goal, we had plenty of time and chances to stop it. However to say it wasn't a foul is ridiculous.

There’s that black and white, matter of fact again.

It’s opinion, TOOR.

The fact that some ex United players thought it was a foul doesn’t invalidate the opinion that it wasn’t.

Thanks for proving me right though - you do indeed see this as a black and white issue.
