Emery vs Lampard

It's taken Lampard two months to get his team playing decent football and winning tough away games. After the setbacks against Man utd, Valencia and Liverpool Lampard is showing his managerial credentials . He has tactical awareness and changes things when he needs to. His team are starting to tick. What a great win against a weakened (but unbeaten in Europe) Ajax team tonight.

Compare that with our fraud of a spanish waiter. After 18 months in charge our team has no shape, guts, intensity or direction. When we lose we play boring, ineffectual, naive football and when we win in the Prem we play boring ineffectual, naive football. We rely so much on Auba and Laca to
produce a bit of magic to get us out of trouble. I've watched Arsenal for 50 years and I have never seen such poor performances from an Arsenal team containing so many so called quality players. At least the likes of Terry Neil had an excuse. A lot of his players were pretty average.

I think that we should be keeping a close eye on Rogers and Allegri. I would fire Emery now and put Freddie L in charge as caretaker manager. I think that he would lift the team . If we change nothing we are sleepwalking to a very boring , frustrating and thoroughly toxic season of mid-table mediocrity.

Just to add insult to injury Klopp has turned the Ox into Messi. (o.k ...massive exageration but...) He scored a pitiful 9 goals in the 6 years and 132 games he was with us.

i was going to play devils advocate and say Lampard has a better team in fairness to emery.
But with Kante, rudiger, rlc, Emerson, Reece James, Hudson odoi, kovacic and Pedro and willians injuries at different times I don’t know what to say to ya OP.

Stop the envy. Our academy is as good as Chelsea if not being one or two inferior. However, our issue is the manager who has become more stubborn than Wenger. At least, Wenger knew which player had quality and was ruthless if a player made costly errors. However, our current manager can't even see Xhaka's mistakes.

This comment has literally nothing to do with my original comment. Why your babbling on about your academy?
And it is not as good as Chelsea’s. just look at their records in youth tournaments

Massive knee jerk over reaction to Chelsea's achievements so far. Emery was doing similarly well at this stage last season before falling away after xmas.

Let's see where they are in Feb or March before proclaming him as some sort of managerial genius. If they continue to play well especially after a few poor results then we can all properly judge him.

What is a positive though is that he is starting to make them into a team that is likeable whereas in the past Chelsea were always that team that others loved to hate because of the type of manager and player they had.

Yeah Nick

For the period 2013-2018:

Our youth won the fa cup 5 years on the bounce and dragged us up to 2nd in all time wins

Also 2 uefa youth titles, 4 southern championship titles and 2 national championship titles

But we have continued to play well after poor results, or even during. Against Liverpool we lost on pens and 2-1 but should have probably got something from both games. Utd we got a beating in the end but could have been 2 or 3 up at half time. Frank stuck with the youth and the way of playing and is reaping the benefits. Doing all this without our best defender, best player, best lb, best attacking midfielder and a few others,

A slight difference is we (Arsenal) didn't look much better during that winning run than we did in the dire run at the end of the season. It was just a strange coincidence that the results were split so starkly between good and bad, the final points total was a good reflection of our very mediocre season.

Lampard at least has Chelsea playing good football and they appear to be moving toward an identity as a squad. Agree it's way too early to judge, I mentioned that in my orignal comment but the comparisons to Emery don't wash IMO.

I’m mostly baffled by Emery’s team selections. Our midfield is so slow, the transition on the counter is slow, Evra was right with his analysis, this team is still getting bullied away from home 10 yrs on. Xhaka is a huge liability, Luiz couldn’t defend if his life depended on it and plays like everything is a joke, what a cast off he is. He’s mollycoddling players that are fit and ready to play, we haven’t got the luxury of a City , these players need to come in now!. Tierney and bellerin, holding will all play tonight so the same team that were pathetic on Monday get another chance on Sunday. You couldn’t make it up.

The team that will play tonight will be better than the one that played in the league, apart from Auba.

Agree with most of that. Disagree on Bellerin and Tierney. Bellerin cannot be rushed under any circumstances. Always better to be safe than sorry with cruciates. Tierney is also a risky one. Simple enough op but not something you can aggrevate by playing too hard too soon. Both could potentially be gone for months if they get anything but a smooth easing back into first team football.

Given how badly we've suffered lack of decent FBs/WBs, I'd rather see them out a couple of weeks longer and remaining healthy, than back now then one or both crocked for months because they weren't really ready. We're not in a position to gamble and rush players back because we can't afford to lose them again in a matter of weeks if not days.

He(Emery) has said himself that Tierney is now 100%, if he wants him to get used to the intensity on the premier league,he needs to give him minutes. The Europa league at this stage is pretty much of sub standard quality, yes it’s nice to see some youngsters getting game time but the level is so low compared to the PL.
