Cristiano Ronaldo: "You look & you follow the example of those who are doing better than you. Which is what I did at Manchester with Giggs, Scholes, Van Nistelrooy, Rio Ferdinand… If you are not learning from those guys, it’s because you’re an imbecile."

Loved reading this small extract from an interview with Cristy, and it made me think who the hell have our youngsters actually got to look up to and feel like they want to emulate? Compare that to who Ronaldo played with back then too. Would you want to lean off the likes of Rojo, Jones and Matic?
The younger players..

I imagine he's referring to both the skills and the mentality. The anecdote about Scholes springs to mind.
Cristiano Ronaldo on Paul Scholes
"When we were in training, I used to do a lot of tricks which hardly any players at the club could do. Once i was showing my skills to Scholes. After i finished it, Scholes took the ball and pointed to a tree which was about 50m from where we were standing. He said, I'm going to hit it in one shot. He kicked and hit the tree. He asked me to do the same; I kicked about 10 times, but still couldn't hit it, with that Accuracy. He smiled and left."
Practical lessons. Namely, you can do all your pretty step-overs Crissy, but if you can't put the ball wherever you need it to go then what good are you to anyone?

I don’t believe any professional footballer can’t hit a tree from 50m, let alone one as good as Ronaldo (even at 20 years old), within 10 attempts
Also, who planted a tree in the middle of the pitch at Carrington ffs.
