DUFC News

A few bits and pieces have been coming out of United in the last few days, some officially and some unofficially.

The Courier are running the story about Banks today, with the Scotland youth player not going to be extending his contract. My understanding is that he's been offered 4 contracts by United and has rejected them all. United are adamant that he won't be featuring again at any level. While Crystal Palace is his likely destination, Celtic are apparently also willing to pay £400k for him. Apparently he's completely alienated himself with his behaviour to the extent that even the rest of the youth/reserves squad aren't speaking to him. Apparently we have other players with more potential but they're all right footed so it's his left foot that makes him stand out.

I obviously don't know the ins and outs of what's going on here but it does have a strong resemblance to the Scott Allan saga. Banks is obviously younger than Allan was and maybe has a better chance, but you'd think Allan would be a big warning sign to any young players acting in this way. Banks could easily be on over 100 appearances by the time he's 20 if he remained at United but if he goes to either club quoted where will he be by then? Flirting around youth teams or the odd loan? Just seems like a mistake to me.

Elsewhere, and in better news for the club, Declan Glass is apparently going to return from his successful loan spell at Cove in January and will feature for the first team to the end of the season. In fact, his new contract apparently guarantees him at least 10 first team appearances by the end of the season.

Not sure how appropriate/accurate this is but I'll be pleased to see him return to the club. He seemed to be having a one man goal of the season competition at the start of the campaign and his spell at Cove has obviously benefited him to the extent that he should be a good option for us in areas that we need options in.

In more up to date team issues, Mark Connolly is apparently in line to return to the starting line up for Friday's derby. This baffles me when we've just had three clean sheets in a row, but then it's the kind of thing Robbie Neilson is prone to doing so we'll wait and see.

As mentioned yesterday, United have sold out our allocation so hopefully the Dees will find enough friends to give their free tickets to and we'll have a full sell out for the BT Sport cameras again.

Also that's Shankland confirmed to be in the Scotland squad, which means that he misses next weeks game against QOTS.

Should we be concerned that Liverpool are requiring last gasp winners most weeks Irish or are you going to relentlessly win the league?

More of that pash.

Interrupting a good season for international dead rubbers.

Are these the last games before the play-offs?

The last gasp winners aren’t good for the heart mate
Long way to go even after Sunday
Showing great resilience to dig out results which is not a bad thing but we can’t do it all the time

Yeah, you need to get back to having games won by the hour mark so the players are able to take it easier and you can make your subs. Especially as you go into the busy Christmas period.

Is it not more common to come from behind during any period nevermind the christmas one? You have to have a plan B during certain periods.

Banks is right to leave. Just look at the careers of Scott Allan and Harry Souttar who both got out of Tannadice quickly after a couple of good games. Gone from strength-to-strength.

Contrast that to a loser like Andy Robertson who stayed for a season in United's first team. Now he plays for some unknown team in Merseyside.
