Transfers

With most of the papers reporting our ban is to be reduced in November and lampard is to given a huge transfer war chest in January it got me thinking.

1. Is £150 million really classed as a war chest now a days? In reality that's a couple of good players in today's market.

2. After being linked with about 10 players, who do we actually need? And do you see Frank making big changes?

Personally I don't think we need to go mad in the transfer market, we've got a good squad with a couple of key areas that need strengthening. The stand out is the left back position, Tuesday night showed just how crucial replacing alonso is. I like Chilwell but the prices being quoted and the fact Leicester are having a great season make a January move pretty unlikely. Beyond that I think it depends what he wants to do with the rest of the squad. When Pedro leaves and if Willian decides to go we're a winger short but you need someone happy to be in competition with pulisic and CHO something I don't think Zaha would be. Same goes for a striker I think giroud will be off in January and batshuayi will have probably had enough of being on the bench by the summer so we probably need a striker to give Tammy some competition.

I think lampard got a difficult job on his hands in finding the right signings to complement the side without upsetting the togetherness of the squad.

A top striker to lead the line and a left back.

Someone better than Kovacic.

The next season potentially Chelsea can challenge.

Have you watched Kova lately....?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeah improved on last season but still not great when i've seen him. Struggled midweek.

Your football knowledge is to be respected.

By absolutely no one.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
FFS your whole fanbase slated him all season last year.

Now he's flavour of the month. Have a word with yourself.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
That's because he's improved immensely..his ball carrying is excellent currently

Just needs to add a goal or three

I’ll assume you’ve barely watched him then. Been one of the best midfielders in the league this season.

We should only buy in January, if it is really necessary,one thing we don't want is a destabilising of the cohesion and harmony that Frank seems to be getting with these guys.
If maybe one or two players do move on,ie Alonso or Pedro ,then maybe we could think more seriously about it, otherwise ...status quo for now.

I agree, although I do hope that Alonso leaves as he is becoming a bit of a liability.

Agree with all the comments above - our squad is looking decent, so there is no need to add mediocrity (as we have done occasionally in the recent past). If we are going to add to the squad, I want them to compete for a first team place. Players who are likely to be replaced in January or the Summer:

Alonso ----> Chilwell?
Pedro/Willian ----> Zaha?
Giroud ------> Werner?

A couple of weeks ago I would also have said we need a good centre back as we need 2 good players for each position. But maybe Lampard has confidence in his 4 guys now, assuming Rudiger can get back to fitness.

Same with the central midfield 2. I assume that Kante and Jorginho are Lampard's starters for those two central positions - but Kovacic has proved himself worthy of a place too. And perhaps if RLC can get back to fitness this year we will have 4 great players for those 2 positions - so perhaps Lampard won't need to invest there either?

Ziyech & Chilwell would be nice

Atal is also a good option

Agree with all of this. I'd only go in to the market in January if an excellent LB became available, which is highly unlikely for that window.

All great players - I'd be delighted with them at Chelsea. I doubt any of them will be available in January though.

I think Emerson has replaced Alonso. He's fine by me. Chilwell is not viable due to fee and Leicesters season so far. Another striker is a priority as Giroud is not getting back in and will be off in Jan. Otherwise I'd resist the temptation to spend and let these kids see the season out. They deserve the chance.
