Cards on the Table fellow Spurs fans!

Many fans seem to have excellent 20:20 hindsight. Lots of i told you so and blame apportioning. Many coming out of the summer were pretty happy with the signings and squad, only to now pick it all apart after a poor start.

So, think it's worth people putting out there what they expect from Jose this season, what they would be happy with. Just to keep you all honest.

We know what he is like, we know his style and his strengths. So realistically, what do you expect as a minimum.

We're currently 1 win from UCL KO qualification, where we will end 2nd and thus face a top team. We're still in the FA Cup . We are 3 pts off 5th but 12 points outside of the top 4.

What say you? Keep it real!

That’s exactly what the whole infrastructure installation and near negative net spend equates to Sandy, ENIC eventually selling up. They effectively hit the golden goose in Poch. In that, he over achieved with their initial targets - ultimately meaning we as fans expected more and more.

You say this like it's a bad thing. Owners put money in to the club to enhance all aspects of it and make it more valuable.

Would you prefer the Mike Ashley way?

Be careful what you wish for!

No not at all, it’s good we invest in structure for the future. I am just simply stating we aren’t run on the playing front to be serial winners, like at City, United, Liverpool etc. Sure it is widely known we have been outspent on the playing front by most in the Prem for year last 9-10 year (particularly the Poch era). We became a stable CL club over the last tenure and I don’t believe that was the remit at the start. It would’ve been simply stability. That akin to Redknapp.

City - Oil money spent net £100m a year over last 5 years.

Man Utd - top 2 clubs in the world with finances and global support that dwarfs Spurs

Liverpool - Lower net spend than Spurs over last 5 years.

So yes, we've been out spent by the clubs who have WAY more money than us and actually spent the same (Net) as Liverpool from the start of Klopps reign.

WHat's the difference between Spurs and Liverpool? The manager being a winner? Better transfer policy? probably a bit of both, but IMO it doesnt just come down to Levy and how we are run as a club, a big part is the question mark about whether Poch actually had it in him to get us over the line.

You also have to balance what has happened with our stadium, the massive upheaval of that, physically, emotionally and financially. With the stadium now done we spent more in the last window (Net) than we have in total in the previous 10 years (net).

There are two differences between us and Liverpool. Firstly they got a huge windfall via Coutinho that dresses up their net spend a bit, however they have spent a lot of money on players. Secondly and more importantly, they’ve had an excellent transfer policy under Klopp and hardly bought a single dud. Salah, Mane, Fabinho, VVD, Robertson and Alison have all been superb signings that were obviously well scouted to address areas of need in their squads. We’d stopped doing that a while back. Our transfer policy has been poor since 2016. We went from a poor transfer and scouting policy, to a non existent one, allowing ourselves to fall behind clubs that we were recently ahead of, such as Liverpool.

I do think that the spending and transfers comes from the coach. Klopp has a very clear idea of how they play and what player fits that. I feel Poch did but over time we've lost focus and identity. I think that as Poch developed as coach, his ideas became less clear. His situation was not helped by Levy's approach to transfers for sure but we have lost our way as a club for more than just the transfer policy IMO.
