Is Dier a Centre Back?

I think his days are numbered as a DM. Theres a mobility that even a sitting DM needs in the premier league which he doesn't have.

Sissoko could do it IF he learns to pass the ball immediately and occupy positional quadrants with discipline. He shouldn't chase the ball unless he is the last line of defence. Instead should snuff out any direct threats from central positions or shots on goal.

Wanyama could do it if he proves his fitness as I believe he is more mobile than Dier (not by much)

The other alternative is playing Ndombele and Winks relying on us dominating possession.

The radical alternative for me is Ndombele and Lo Celso. Lo Celso has just as much energy as Winks and has more ability to make a key pass.

I rate Winks but I dont think he is as good as Lo Celso.... even as a CM.

It’s not even that.

When he broke on to the scene as a DM he was tall but hadn’t filled out yet meaning he had good turn of speed to get around the pitch.

Now as he’s got older he’s filled out naturally and it’s took his mobility away and he’ll never get it back.

He’s obviously not finished as a pure DM that can block passing lanes and win duels but he’ll never be as good as he was in that first season.

Sissoko could of been a great DM or box to box midfielder but he got shafted by Newcastle who always stuck him out on the wing.

It’s a shame he left Toulouse to go there, he showed bags of potential as a youngster but made the wrong choice.

While José is here I reckon Dier will stay as a DM unfortunately

Don't think that's the Mourinho way......
either Dier will improve beyond what you expect or ...
Jose will turn to someone else.

I expect to see a lot more of Sissoko.

I still think Dier will do a job when fit. Maybe he's filled out a bit but he's hardly Huddlestone. I expect Sissoko to become a backup RB.

A bit harsh on Dier, he has performed well for Spurs over the past few years, obviously there is something wrong in terms of his current form. Could be something to do with his recent illness, maybe he is not quite over it just yet.

Just to shed more light on things, after Dier had an emergency appendectomy, his immune system was not operating properly and it affected him quite badly.

Dier was poor before his appendectomy

wum

Sissoko is back up DM/CM. Huddlestone was better than Dier tbh, at least he could pass and score the odd belter.
