Leicester v Everton the Pre-Match thread

Well if we still have a manager on Sunday he will be leading the side to take on Everton. That’s if Arsenal don’t make an approach for him in the meantime and he’s jumped in a taxi before he’s had chance to put the phone down as some believe he would do. Arsenal are a top six club aren’t they? A bigger club. Let’s just hope they go for NES instead.

Of course Everton are a club that give everyone else a bit of hope, but maybe not for entirely the right reasons. When I started watching football in the eighties people often talked about a big five: Liverpool, Man Utd, Arsenal, Spurs and ….. Everton. In recent years Man City and Chelsea have replaced Everton and it’s the big six. That’s proof right there that things can change over time and this measure of ‘bigness’ is something that can evolve.

If anything Everton along with Wolves should have been our closest challengers in the fight for seventh place this season if the correct script was unfolding. Everton are a team who’ve shown ambition and invested heavily in their squad as well appointing high profile managers and pinching Chief Scouts from their rivals. A team that should really be going places, but they’re not. They come to Leicester a side struggling at the wrong end of the table with a manager under pressure to get a good result.

So will this be a stroll in the park for our talented side or will the Everton players choose this game to step up and make a statement? No game at this level should ever be taken for granted and there is a feeling of beware the wounded tiger. We shall see. The sad thing for me is that this will be the first game I miss in about 2 years – how selfish of a daughter to have her birthday on the same day!

I feel like a broken record with my team selections and formations, but whilst we keep winning there is not much more to say other than: “play it again Brendan". I wouldn’t be changing anything in case we accidentally break what doesn’t need fixing. Praet will surely get his chance when the games pile up over Christmas as will Demarai Gray our new super sub.

There will be a few who call out Gray for a start, but I thought his Brighton performance showed why he isn’t a starter. He has the infuriating ability to hold onto the ball that little bit too long and is still not mature enough in his decision making. That doesn’t mean that a few question marks don’t remain on the likes of Barnes and Perez, but we’re now nit-picking a well-balanced side. Of course this problem in the wide areas may be solved when James Rodriguez walks into Belvoir drive demanding a starting slot. No, hang on, the rumours are that Arsenal are in for him too and their a top six club you know – just in case you needed reminding.

Here’s hoping for another win in my absence.

Really well put by Joby and Rev. Sums up my views exactly. Regular posters on here will know how unbelievable but truly traumatic I found that title season. The last 10 games were utter torture and I nearly had a breakdown at that West Ham game. I was ready to blame Jon Moss for ruining everything I’ve dreamed of as a fan.

But then the sheer joy of it actually happening. Looking back at the night it happened, the Everton game, Victoria park and remembering those feeling last is incredible and fill me with emotional and joy. Our city was truly united by the achievement.

And now we look at our club, with regular england internationals (I remember the pride and excitement when a player from my club got just one cap - Steve Guppy take a bow!), and 2nd in the league. I’m with Joby. Now the pressure has gone from the title, I’m just enjoying the ride. After the way we’ve started I’ll actually be disappointed not to make the top 4, but the fact that I’m even thinking that tells you that, like Rev, in time we’ll look back at this moment as the greatest in our history.

I’m not arrogant enough to believe we won’t ever be back in division 2 playing Rotherham and losing 1-0 ruining my Boxing Day. So I’m just enjoying these times. What great times to be a Leicester City football fan.

I must be one of few who did enjoy that season without stress or worrying that we would muck it up, I was never in any doubt 😂

To me you were irrational for large swathes of that season Arro. Your confidence was baffling to many long suffering Leicester fans. In hindsight you were justified!

Arro is like most of us apart from Dublin our hero barking, even me with my irrational lack of confidence in kasper. My son said hes the best keeper in the Prem and i'm gave up trying to give my view.

Gice Barnes more time s goal will do him good can't drop Pirez we put up with Shinzi just because of his work rate.

This is the best team i have seen in the Royal Blue since the world was in Black and White

He’s certainly not the best goalkeeper in the prem Nev, but he’s certainly not as bad as you think he is!!

I know but i think our lack of goals has a lot more to do with the five men in front of him but yes i am softening

It was really amusing to see all those who were laughing at him for saying that Leicester would finish in the top six gradually fall away. He actually underrated our potential in the end

Yeah I only said we'd challenge Spurs for a European place and in the end they were no challenge at all 😂
