DUFC 2 AAFC 1

Unfortunately I wasn't able to make the game on Saturday due to illness but United picked up yet another victory at home and we continue our march towards the league title.

Not that I'm getting ahead of myself but you have to feel that if we can get through the rest of the month unscathed then we're in a terrific position to go on and win the league. We have the potential to go 10 points clear of second place ICT tomorrow night as we play our game in hand away at Morton followed by a potential banana skin along the road at Gayfield, and then we have two crucial home games against two teams who aren't in the best of form - Ayr United and Dundee - to finish off the year. Twelve points from that and it's hard to see beyond us even this early in the campaign.

By all accounts we were dominant on Saturday despite the scoreline, and we should have won convincingly. As it was we were wasteful and went behind to a Reynolds own goal. What's reassuring is that, according to the people I've spoken to, the fans got behind the team after that set back and the usual grumbles didn't happen. Thankfully we got the goal before half time through Clark and then Louis Appere got the winner into the second half.

It's pleasing that we've won again without Shankland in the team but according to Neilson he should return tomorrow night. You have to feel that we would have scored more with the main man in the starting XI but I'm pleased both strikers got on the scoresheet on Saturday. Nicky Clark has really stepped up since his return from injury and you have to feel that Appere needs to start scoring goals to get his confidence up. He has the physical attributes to be a very good player especially at this level, the young man just needs that confidence to believe he'll score every time he steps out on the park.

I believe both full backs were excellent on Saturday too which is fantastic given the state of our full back positions in recent years.

It really is going well for us at the moment and the league table is very good reading for us just now - and that's without even looking at the position of our friends across the road, who did well to get a point away at Arbroath on Saturday.

I don't really follow English football closely but I did have a wee soft spot for Everton growing up. Good to see Big Dunc in the dugout and getting a good win at the weekend.

I wouldn't consider myself an Everton supporter or anything though and I'd like to see Liverpool win the league this year.

Barry, why hasn't McPake been sacked yet?

I'm not trying to be a kant about it but surely he's got to get his jotters?

Ivan, I imagine you are like me when you ask someone who they support and they reply with an English Premier League team and don't follow Scottish football. When they are from Dundee or Aberdeen or somewhere. The disappointment you feel. Ah you're one of those.

I've got a mate who supports Arsenal. He doesn't support a Scottish team. I don't really speak to him about football very often.

Because he's the cheap option.
