City can't defend - Peter Schmeichel

This is now a mantra and everyone's business for the 3rd season. City's defense is the second best, but the easy goals it has lately soaked is worrying. Injuries and VAR aside, the team looks skewed, sharp and good forwardline but a poorer backline. The reason is obvious, Pep does NOT want to be seen buying his way to success, his logic, buy unready defenders, (remember Laporte's howlers against Tottenham) and build them into great players.

Second best defence? Four teams have conceded less than you, which includes the two above you and Palace and Sheffield United. Wolves and even United have conceded the same as you.

Also how does it follow your logic than Pep doesn't want to be seen as buying a defence when he has spent hundreds of millions on one?

I think it's more likely he felt what he had was enough and with Rodri arriving he felt moving Fernandinho back would work out well, which is what he did with Mascherano at Barca.
