The future can be really bright

There’s been a lot of doom and gloom post SAF but if we can get the next few transfer windows right there can be plenty to look forward to.

Was thinking about the line up that started against City on Saturday and the oldest outfield players were Maguire and Fred. Both 26 and born on exactly the same day (didn’t know that). Many of the players were much younger.

Add to that Tuanzebe, Greenwood and Williams who look the real deal and then you have the likes of Garner, Gomes, Chong who may make it.

We should keep the transfer policy of going for players in their mid twenties and younger and let them grow together. Let De Gea be the old man of the group.

I’ve heard some fans say go for the likes of Eriksen and Mandzukic but not for me.

Young hungry players is what we need not guys looking for one last big pay packet.

Gomes and Chong aren't ready, and in Gomes case I think the league at this stage isn't perfect for him. French or German league would be better for his development.

Kai Havertz is someone I touted and I think he can play that role for us better than any options we have now. He is also quite young so he still has a lot of developing to do.

Just read that this weekend will mark the 4,000th consecutive football match in a row that we've had a product of our youth team in the squad, which is nice.

I'm excited with some of the youngsters we have too which is why I think we could do with one or two players in the prime of their careers. Even the Class of 92 had Schmeichel, Bruce, Pallister, Irwin, Keane, Cantona and Cole to guide them (amongst others). We need a mix IMO.

One complaint many of us had with Ole was his formation and a perceived lack of tactics. In the past week he's shown that this formation can work - is flexible, and his tactics beat a couple of clubs that had superior squads. The players are starting to work well in this system, and we know who and what Ole wants. Despair changed to hope in a span of 8 days.

Yes, it is a good spell. We really need to build on this now. If we can carry on with this momentum into the January window, then sign a couple of players, the second half of the season will be interesting.

And here was me thinking that we were going to see a new improved RDD. I thought they were going to rebuild him. Thicker, slower, weaker.

Ray, I'd say that when we had our injuries we were limited in what he could do. He's shown that he is quite tactically astute and he learns from others as well as from the mistakes he makes. The way we played against Spurs and City is where we can see his tactics in play.

Though it's easier to prepare and analyse for these games. We still lack something against the smaller teams. I think we are missing that bit of creativity from the middle that we need to unlock them. But he's shown he knows what he is doing. He's not as incompetent as some believe him to be. And some of our fans keep chasing the flavour of the month type manager whenever we've hit any bumps in the road.
