Mesut Özil

Causing quite a stir in China.

Already looks like his comments are going to hit revenue in one of our strongest markets. The clubs "effort" to distance themselves from his comments has seemingly failed with the state run CCTV pulling our live games. Ironically they have replaced todays match with the Tottenham Hotspur game..

In a post on Instagram, Özil wrote: "(In China) Qurans are burned, mosques were closed down, Islamic theological schools, madrasas were banned, religious scholars were killed one by one. Despite all this, Muslims stay quiet."

What are your thoughts? I know little about the situation in China to be honest but these accusations are widespread.

Awkward situation for the club to be dragged into, a moral argument involving a player and one of it's largest markets.

It would be great news, imo, to just fack Ozil off.

Fack China and their censorship. We should cut our significant losses on Ozil but I still applaud him for not catering to the Chinese like the rest of the western world are doing

A player makes a contraversial comments just before the transfer window begins in two weeks... And you believe he is concerned about few human beings....😂😂😂

Kudos to Ozil for fronting up. Huge shame on all the Muslim countries on the payroll of the Chinese who dare not bring it up.
The Americans sanctioning a few Chinese officials is nowhere enough and more needs to be done.

Football players should learn a lot from Anthony Joshua who made apolitical comments about Saudi Arabia.. He knew the consequences of his political comments about KSA that will affect his career and financially. And moreover, he won't gain anything from the speaking against the state when a child knows what the realities are.

Ozil knew his comments will hurt Arsenal financially then his departure from London will be quicker...

Seems like this takes away a few potential options to ship him out to.

@gunnerblog
Since Ozil spoke out about the plight of China’s Uighur population, his fan club’s been shut down, his social media accounts blocked, & all trace of his name removed from Chinese search engine results.

Football, eh?

‘.. his fan club’s been shut down...’

Though that might be as much to do with his performance versus City as anything else

Im not ozils biggest fan in a footballing sense...

But he's 100% right....the things happening over there are atricious....on a massive state led scale. He would be wrong to stay quiet on the subject.
