Gomez is VVD best partner

Joe Gomez is the best partner for VVD. I’ve said it for a while and I know he had a few off games when he came back from injury but now he’s up to fitness he is back to where he was last season before that injury.

Matip was excellent and Lovren has stepped it up but Joe has proven he is the number 1 to play alongside VVD.

He is fast, strong and the big difference is his distribution. He can play the mall into the channels to the forwards with ease. He does it quickly and turns defence into attack instantly where Lovren and Matip take more time and often end up playing it sideways

Here’s the stats to show his worth

Since the start of 2018/19 in the league:

• With a VVD-Lovren CB partnership - 17 goals conceded in 18 games = 0.94 goals conceded per game

• VVD-Matip - 16 goals conceded in 24 games = 0.67 goals per game

• VVD-Gomez - 5 goals conceded in 14 games = 0.36 goals per game

I also think he’s England’s best centre back but hopefully horseface will keep picking Keane and Maguire and Stones.

Its all about the pace.

The entire team is pushed up the park now, there less gaps between the lines and the press works far better.

We are going to absolutely murder the lesser sides like that.

Its not even about ability on the ball. its just purely getting our whole team more balanced

He’s got pace which serves him well but he’s still getting caught under the ball to much for me but as said above he’s only a baby and will improve.

Let’s face it though we’ve got fack all else to put in at the minute what with us having no injuries!

yeah babes looking look although Matip is more of a threat from set plays.

However Joe has time to add this to his game

Exceptional again today. Just pray him and VVD can stay fit. If they do, we will win the league.

If you are up against a tall side with big men up front then its Matip but it its against quick sides then Gomez for sure.

i agree, hes still a lot to learn but 22 is still very young for a CB

Surely 22 is young for a player in any position?

What colour is the sky?

Best player in our side today for the second game in a row

If everyone’s fit, I’d still go with Matip. He was probably our best defender this season up until the injury.

Joe is slowly starting to show the form from the beginning of last year but I’m still not entirely convinced just yet.

Still would probably prefer Matip back there but Gomez is winning me over again.

Just glad he isn't at right back

Lads. If you want to start conceding goals again work away.

Joes pace makes the difference. Its not just about defence. its about getting the defence line higher and the lines close together so we can conrol games and press.

Matip. nice lad, can read the game well and strode forward impressing everyone. Thats all nice but when the forwards are isolated and we are just sitting deeper after losing it again and again its not great.

Gomez is a rolls royce CB. Matip is just a nice Porsche, just not a gt3.

Our best defence is back together. Gomez needs to learn from his benching. He didn't impress in training and tried too hard to play forward in the games he got which really cost him his chance.

Nice thing is it cost us absolutely nothing this season.

Now we have the best back 5 together, and as a bonus keita getting a bit fitter and more able.

Get fabinho back in and we are golden.
