Mike Riley

“He is actually a bit thick," said one leading club official of Riley. “Like a bad schoolteacher. He is the root of the Premier League problem.’’

This is just the latest attack on Riley and the implementation of VAR in the PL. IFAB have even allegedly threatened to revoke the PLs licence to use VAR unless they start using it properly.

They are coming for you, you corrupt, bald weasel caaaant.

You won't be hearing from them if they weren't being criticised. This is not some impact assessment at the end of the season with tangible provable data. This is an intervention to say 'its not us guv'. Clear passing the buck.

No one was blaming them, so why would they pass the buck
You wouldn't be hearing from them if the PL weren't making a hash of things.

They are being blame because as you have pointed out.

"IFAB make the rules and have done since 1886
They say it isnt accurate enough to make the calls the PL do, and they are the ones who worked with the development of VAR. "

No, the PL and Riley are being blamed because they arent following the rules set out by IFAB.

I am trying to explain. Unless they have empirical data which proves that the PL is not following the rules as they have laid out, it is nothing more than attempt to shift the blame because of the criticism VAR is receiving in the media. Otherwise they would wait till the end of the season and correct whatever they feel is being incorrectly implemented by the PL. Nothing can be changed mid-season because it will no doubt affect the integrity of the interpretation that the PL have implemented for the season. So why do it?

VAR is being criticised because of the way it is used in the PL, a way that doesnt follow the protocol laid down by IFAB. You dont see this method in other leagues.
It can be changed mid season. The PL have already reviewed their use and told VARs to be less passive.

Wait till there is an offside NOT called because it is close but goes against the favourite of which ever pundit is calling the game that day!

Unless it is clear and obvious, like the Auba one v United at OT, then nobody will bat an eyelid.
