Iran latest

“According to the accurate reports of our sources in this area, at least 80 American troops were killed and some 200 others were wounded, who were immediately transferred out of the airbase by helicopters," said an informed source at the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps, according to IRIB.

“Ain al-Assad airbase was a strategic site for the US which was used to support drones," the source added.

As many as 20 critical points of the base were hit by 15 missiles and a significant number of UAVs and helicopters were destroyed, according to the source.

“Despite the fact that Americans had been on high alert, their air defense was unable to respond," the source noted.

“As many as 104 critical points in the US’ positions in the region have been identified, which would be destroyed upon the US’ first mistake," the source added.

The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) targeted the US airbase of Ain al-Assad in Anbar province in western Iraq after launching a wave of attacks in early hours of Wednesday to retaliate the US assassination of IRGC Quds Force commander, Lt. Gen. Qasem Soleimani.

I fear America will escalate this to a point of no return.
It seems human stupidity has no limits.

Islamic State welcomes the killing of Soleimani: why his killing is good news for Jihadists.

They're hardline fundamentalists that believe in a different interpretation of Islam than they do in Iran?

Iran confirms it shot down the plane by mistake.

Absolutely flooking frightening.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
War tends to be.

Reckless behaviour from all sides.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
America and the West have largely withdrawn from the region, after Labour brought us into a dodgy war.

With America and Europe pulling back, Russia and Iran hsve stepped in, so that is the alternative to the West withdrawing.

I am not sure about taking out the general, but it is not war and if we stay away, millions in the ME suffer from home grown terror and dictators.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
So are you advocating the west be in or out?

Make your f*cking mind up.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I am and have been opposed to western intervention.

That is just one bloke and a personal view.

Those attacking America and the West do not offer hope or change for those living under Islamist and other authoritian regimes.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
America and the west offer hope?

For who?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
America and the West are liberal democracies and foolishly thought the ME could be changed, but if the West does not help or intervene in the middle East or north Africa or Afghanistan, it leaves Islamist extremists and dictators in control of billions.

It is complex, and America and the West are far from perfect, but the alternative is worse if we leave the Taliban in charge or if Isis were not fought, or if Assad and Iran and Russia are given free roles.

I am not saying the West should go in, but await the Corbynista alternative answer.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Corbyn’s answer as always is dialogue first and a political solution.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yea, he wants to talk to Isis.

How would they hsve received him?

They would still be in charge.

Now, Corbyn et al watch Assad continue to oppress, with Putin and Iran doing as they please.

Who did jezza talk to there lol??

Silly old sod lives in a leftyland bubble in London.

After growing up in a nice manor house with private schooling.

And why will the working classes not love me???

Where as bigotry comes very naturally for you.

Hardly surprising, you and the Islamic fundamentalists are two sides of the same coin.

Dearie me.

I blame the schools.

What are your qualifications, btw.

I get pulled about only having a 2-1 politics and history degree.

What makes you worth listening to?

Quick search BBC etc. Show you the evidence.

The latest video looks very much like it was a missile hit. That and the fact a heat seeking missile tip was found 100 yards from the wreckage.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
That’s not evidence of anything.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Whoopsie!
