How much training is required?

We hear a lot that players need to get up to speed physically and also in terms of Bielsa’s tactics before they are ready to play.

I’m wondering how true this is.

Bielsa was relatively successful at International level, an environment where he has little control over long term fitness, where he can’t work with players anywhere near as regularly to drill into play all systems.

I’m sure the more practices he has with players the better they will get, but if we get fit, decent quality players in who have growth mindsets I don’t see any issue with signing players this window to be of use for second half of season.

I dont think bielsa is anywhere near as cold and distant with his players as is made out.

You only have to look at that video of him running halfway across the pitch during a training session to hug bamford after he scored a goal.

In regards on how long it takes to get up to speed, I'd imagine it depends on the player to be fair.

Matty, I always assumed that too, but after hearing Christiano's interview ref Bielsa, that hug was a very isolated incident. Wonderful to see however

Think bamford referred to it as a little awkward

He's very loyal to the players, that must get him a lot of support from the squad.

Ayling for example had a poor spell around Xmas last season, calls to drop him for Shackleton. Another manager would have but he defended him in the press and kept playing him until he got some form.

Same with his comments after games, always blames himself for losses. Never talks about individual mistakes like Warnock did. Players appreciate that.

Lets face it, he's just a great guy.

Players (current and past), coaches (current and past, except the Angel Gabriel-Lampard), pundits, media, tea ladies, members of the public, fans. Anyone got any negatives on the guy?

Maybe the laundry staff (if we still employ them) given the amount of sweat they need to wash out of training gear each day.

The club deserves huge credit for identifying, approaching, visiting and getting this guy on board, whatever his price tag.

From the sound of it, beyond the fitness training, the aim is to drill the players into automatic responses to situations such as finding a pass to a teammate or moving constantly to cover or make themselves available to other players.

It's noticeable that we score a lot of goals late in games - this can only be down to fitness levels after we've made the opposition run around like loons for 85 minutes.

Agree with the above - it is more about the new player obtaining an understanding of how to play with his teammates.
