Hahah they are one of my fave ever bands (their first two albums at least) but I’m just gonna miss them. Sad I’ll miss the Deftones too

I wanted to see MCR at Download but I don't like any of the other bands so going to see them in Auckland instead and spend a couple of days there.
I was going to have MCR as my guilty pleasure but I don't think they are. They're a genuinely great band and The Black Parade is one of the best albums of the 00's.
I was lucky enough to randomly meet Gerard Way in Amsterdam in 2007 too (I saw randomly, we were in Amsterdam to see MCR, but we ran in to him in the shopping district). Such a down to earth guy who took the time to speak with me and the Mrs. Says a lot for someone who was in - at the time - one of the biggest bands in the world.

I gotta disagree about the Black Parade - (Save for This is how I disappear and the Sharpest Lives)

Three Cheers is the perfect album! Every single song is a banger! And you’re right about Gerard Way. Went to see them at the Astoria and when he came out at the end he went straight past us and into his car and his driver drove off and my then GF thought he was a douche. Then the next time we saw them was at Brixton and he came out after and gave her an MCR hoodie for free and we revised our opinion haha.

Surprised at your opinion of Black Parade. I really love it. Apart from possibly Sleep. Three Cheers is a great album though.

It’s okay but for me a bit like they’d run out of ideas while conversely trying to make it a concept album which showed in the music. Their first album is raw and what they’re all about. Everyone hears music differently so there’s no right and wrong but I just felt the bigger they got the further away from what made them great they went. Headfirst for Halos is actually genius.

Have you seen the set list for their gigs? Not bad. Starting with I’m not Okay. What a song to start with!

Yeah I saw the setlist from the LA gig, so good! Couple of low points - i.e. old B sides. I don't think that's what people are coming to see. But I can't wait to see them in March. Haven't seen them for about 8 years.

I hope they stick around and make a new album. Time away might have given them a new voice. Love the era they are from too. Bands like the Used, Head Automatica, Avenged Sevenfold, Atreyu etc

I loved Head Automatica. So poppy compared to Daryl Palumbo's main band Glassjaw. They had some immense choruses.

Yeah, glassjaw were immense. Twice I almost saw them but twice gigs were cancelled due to his Crohn’s disease flaring up. You always been in Melbourne? Was thinking about moving back there (used to live in Black Rock) but it’s Sydney for me this time.

Well I’m from London but been in Melbourne for 12 years. Got family in Sydney though and heading up there next weekend.
Yeah his crohns is bad hey? I have something similar (ulcerative colitis) so I know what it’s like.
Fun fact: Gerard Way sings vocals on Graduation Day. But you probably already knew that haha.

Haha sorry I’m not sure I want to reveal quite that much detail. We weren’t a huge band or anything so it’s not all that likely you’d have heard of us, far from groupie status! You’re probably best to assume you’d have hated us.

I play guitar. It is a regret that my lead playing is not as good as it should of been. When I think of all the time I have had to improve. Good at rhythm and finger picking.

I don't play all that much these days sadly, I teach to a couple people but that's about the only time I pick a guitar up! Kids tend to get in the way of such things...

Going off topic a bit but I hope the families of our Australian posters are safe with theses fire still going strong.

Wow, what happened at the Baroness show?

One of their performances is (possibly nostalgically to an extent, granted) one of my favourite ever.

Although that was with their original lineup years before the accident.
