Beating the pressing game

Arsenal were unable to play out from the back in the first half, after the break they turned the tables and suddenly we were inviting pressure trying to play out. In other sports the coach would have called a time-out. How do we change tactics in a fluid game, and how do you beat the hard press?

All depends on the quality of your players. This will give you options.
However, i believe, if teams are pressing the midfield, then there has to be space.
example, McGuire plays it out to McT, then to Fred who is rushed by 2. you either play quick triangles or pass it back to McGuire to pass over the top.
But it all depends on the quality and if they have the confidence to do it.
A last resort, is to give one or 2 a good kicking. i mean a nicely timed pro foul.

Is that the ones people don't get booked for?..

There were a couple the other night that got away with things!..

I think the other night showed Premiership vs Championship, in the end quality showed!..

agree there.. but I would say 'quality' as such.. we won every start and their goal was pretty lucky..

but I agree we got beaten by premier league experience in terms of getting away with pro fouls.. Kilch's foul was a revenge tackle, you could see it a mile off

Ah ok, this is about the Cup game the other night. You played some real nice stuff, just overplayed at times.
2nd half they showed more respect. Hence the fouling.
If that’s Championship quality, boy... I don’t think it’s too long before you’re in the Prem.

Just so we can relegate you again! Boom.

Apologies, allow me, it’s tough times being a Man Utd fan right now....

We were too slow to realise they had massively upped their pressing game and we didn’t have as much time on the ball as we had got used to in the 1st half. We didn’t adapt our speed of play quick enough or adapt the options we took on the ball. And that led to moments of panic and some terrible decisions.

For the last 20-25 minutes we did learn and did adapt and competed with Arsenal full of quality players that were working harder than they have ever done before at the club. I’m as pleased about that as I am about the first half where we were the far better team.
