First signing of the window?

If the rumours are true it seems the first (hopefully not only) player to be signed could be 18 year old Italian keeper Elia Caprile on a 4 and a half year deal. You have to wonder about the wisdom of agreeing to such a long term deal given that we have young players on similar deals who we can't move on after learning that they don't cut the mustard.

Don't know about anyone else but I'm tired of reading about creche kid signings when there are bigger fish to fry.

We're in urgent need of first team squad additions to bolster the promotion campaign, especially given that we're in a great position to push on and make it happen.

How many youngsters have we signed who have made an impact on the first team? Some have gone out on loan and are not exactly pulling up any trees or even getting regular game time in Mickey Mouse leagues.

I sometimes wonder how serious we are about promotion. You would think AR, Orta et al would be concentrating on the first team in readiness for the opening of the window.

I know it's only the 10th January and we didn't know that Nketiah would be going back to Arsenal until just before the window opened but we've been scarred before for neglecting the needs of the first team squad and been made to pay. The collapse of the Monk team and last season spring to mind.

In truth, I'm just frustrated and I hope I'm made to eat my words, but it's disappointing to read that the first signing of the January window could be the next youth player on a 4 year contract. Get the needs of the first team sorted, secure promotion and we'll have our pick of players for the first team and the U-23s.

As usual, time will tell but I'm impatient for the club to get on with it.

Never been a fan of the January window.

I forgot Pascal Struijk who has also graduated into the first team. Aapo Halme did the same. Two more names for the list of players brought in by this policy to have played for Leeds.

And it's not like it's hampering the progress of our youth team either. Been pretty successful since the policy started. And plenty of academy graduates are still stepping into the first team too, so it's not getting in the way of them.

There's actually 0 things to whine about in regards to this. Yet people make up expenses that they don't know anything about and they try to whine.

lets end the speculation on it..

lets have a look at all the U23 signings.. how much bought for, how much sold for, where they are.. lets get a percentage on things.. otherwise we're all just p1 ssing in the wind aligning things for our own agenda's

Its time and money wasted that could be better utilized on the first team. We should be looking for more players like Saiz, Alioski, Harrison. Not Halme, Mcalmont and Sarkic.

Whilst I agree in part Shauny.. there is more to a club than just the fist team squad... time and money MUST be spent else where too.

Investment in the future is fine. However, seeing as though any first team signing is likely to be sidelined until he can finish two Ironman's in a day, it's far better for the club to invest that time and money in first team additions as early as possible. As long as Orta is on the eve of such signings, again, fine.

If he drags his rear and any first teamers come in at the end of window, rather than early, then we've wasted valuable training & game time needed to bed them in. Per MB's asks.

IMO, please just get a fire under your ar . zess.

According to Phil Hay Che Adams really wants to come.. its the Southampton manager that is unsure of the move. he would be good for us.

You do realise that Mccalmont was an academy graduate, right? He wasn't signed from another club as a part of the youth transfer policy. Or is that you advocating that we ignore our own youth system as well?

You've mentioned him specifically twice during this discussion. So I can only assume it is the latter opinion that you are trying to express.

I meant the Carlisle one, Mcarron. My bad. Yeah Mcarron hasn't been mentioned once yet since he signed. We sold Dalby, Halme and Diaz not long after signing them.

We're apparently signing Ian Poveda from Man City as our first singing. 19 year old winger who plays for there U21's.

Not sure about anyone else, but the obsession with signing these youngsters almost reminds me of how I used to play Champ Manager as a kid once I was experienced in that "year" and knew who was good.

Once you had your main squad sorted, you just filled the second team with a load of these quality young lads for 50k.

Yorkie... totally agree 😂😂😂😂

Me Too... then occasionally you’d get that kid because he turns out top notch... Mine was fifa 10 manager mode.. brought it home many a time 😂.. one youth player, Fenchone, a fresh french 19 year old defensive midfielder ended up as a 99 when he was at the end of his career.

Yes, I played the full 15 seasons.. I’d just had an operation and o couldn’t do much else 😂😂😂😂

Mind you, I signed Bentner too..

And believe or not.. I signed hazard as young gun too.. then some years later he’s at Chelsea 😂😂

Top days when that was only concern 😂😂😂
