Tammy for Englands main striker?

With Kane on the injury list and Vardy in self imposed exile does this make Tammy the favourite to start England games?

Its between him and Rashford youd expect but Rashford is maybe better deployed as a support striker or wing option. Tammy is the more natural choice at 9

I think if Vardy decides to re enter the fray then he is the best option but if Soithgate wants to think long term only then Tammy has done the most of the young options

You have to have a certain amount of trust and loyalty to your players. Especially at a international tournament where team spirit plays a massive part. I think Southgate has generally got that dynamic within the team spot on - they are a group that are clearly together. Plus you can’t just keep chopping and changing the team if you intend to develop any chemistry on the pitch.

That said, sometimes tough decisions with certain players need to be taken. For me, Vardy is one of those players.

We'd all love Vardy in the England squad for the Euros I'm sure but it's not going to happen sadly.

You play Vardy and then you lose the Sterling, Rashford/Sancho impact. Kane plays an important role for England which is almost like Firmino where he links the wide forwards which is something Vardy cannot do. He wants to run behind. He is a one trick pony but the one trick we don't need.

Tammy is probably the other striker who can play that role and the closest to Kane.

Yes I agree with this tbf. But we can have a plan b with Vardy in the squad

harry kanes overall play is probably the most overrated thing on this board. I dont think tammys hold up and link up play is far off kanes already.

Still not buying the Abraham hype, misses too many chances he should score.

Definitely improving but not good enough to be Chelsea's main man nor Englands.

Fash with another odd opinion. He's got a higher amount of goals than his expected goals. If you can list a few of the misses you think he should have scored?

Thing thats impressed me most about tammy this year is his all around game. Didin't realise he was as strong or quick. Already muscling defenders off the ball, despite his slim frame.

Kane is no Bergkamp but he does drop well to a 10 to allow the wide forwards to prosper. What you can't have is 3 forwards all running in the same direction which is what is at risk if Vardy plays number 9. We will then have to play a Mount out wide rather than Rashford which will not happen.

He's certainly improved that aspect for sure. I'd like to see a line up like

--------vardy-tammy------
Sterling---******-------Sancho-----
-----------Holding Mid------

With the *** being anyone from mount/maddison/alli/grealish, who can drop in or out of a midfield two.

Our DM's are all pretty poor/young so rather just have one then fill the team with mediocrity.
