Off topic but something I’m sure many of you are vested in...
On a weekend away with old friends a couple of weeks from now and want to bring a nice bottle of whisky. Personally I’ll happily drink any brown liquor but most of them like peated whisky so after a nice recommendation
If I go for unpeated Dalmore 18 is probably my go to or Glenfarclas. Love Irish (Bushmills 10) and Bourbon (Jefferson’s or Rowans Creek) Not massively fussed about Japenese (Togouchi is pretty special though)
Don’t drink peated too often but if I do more Ardbeg, less Laphroaig or Jura. Call me a heathen but for the price I could take or leave Lagavulin.
Anyway, just after a couple of nice recommendations that ideally are a bit more special than something I can pick up in the local Asda, but won’t require me to remortgage.

I have a talisker 10 year old unopened...won it in a golf tournament 8 years ago
My mate who knows his whisky swears by Monkey Shoulder
A bottle of dufftown Singleton came my way recently...not tried it

Went to the talisker distillery last summer on the way up to the outer Hebrides, stayed on Skye for a few nights. Got myself a bottle of a special reserve and finished it before getting back home. Glorious stuff. The 10 year old is well priced.

Monkey shoulder is a blended malt, I got given a bottle a few years ago. Not bad, but no where near as good as a single malt.

Irish whisky is unpeated. If you want big peat in a blend Black Grouse is very peaty. For a single malt islay malts like Langavulin and Laphroaig are good and super peaty but you have to like the iodine taste which some don’t. Blends like Monkey Shoulder and Copper Dog are sweet and easy to drink and actually dead nice but have little or no peat.

for an Irish whisky try Redbreast 12 Year Old Single Pot, otherwise try Edradour Ballechin 8 Year Old Double Malt Double Cask.

Not fussed on Japanese????
Yamazaki 12yr and Hibiki are superb
For the price, it's tough to beat Talisker, though the 10yr is my least favourite- prefer the Skye, and much prefer the Storm and Port Ruighe. Not opened my 57°North yet........
Have the Glenfarclas 12, 18 and 105. Love them all.
Also partial to Connemara on the cheap end of the scale.

True. Found an offer on the Yama 12 a couple of months ago at €99 and jumped on it. The Hibiki I picked up for €65, but considering how good some of the cheaper stuff like Talisker is, it's hard to justify when sober
