Even though I'm an Ole in man

at least for now. To be fair I thought I would post this article from the Guardian, as it makes Robbs point et al with clarity.

https://www.theguardian.com/football/blog/2020/jan/18/ole-gunnar-solskjaer-not-right-manager-manchester-united

I don't disagree with the points made in general, only about the timing. He's done enough imo to have until the end of the season. He's played a poor hand reasonably well.

52 you can read most newspapers if you want right of centre opinions. personally I don't, but what has that got to do with the sports pages of any paper including the Guardian.

As I said earlier because it is in the 'respectable and Liberal Guardian' many people who want to bash United may use this article to justify their Ole out agendas purely based on it's tittle tattle.

Basically because it is probably actually a crock of mischievous journalistic cack.

Surprised you can't see that 52 tbh.

Fair enough.

I've seen glimpses of what I think he's trying to do but I do think that our central midfield is a massive issue.

It isn't providing the sort of cover that our defence and fullbacks need, and it isn't transitioning the ball quickly enough for our front three.

That's why I want to see who he signs and what difference it makes.

Yes, I agree and I say that's a failure of the manager who spent £80m on a centre back when you already had a centre back as good as him who you sent on loan and neglected the area you needed most.

Too early to say that - can’t possibly expect the team to be overhauled in one transfer window.

Jonathan Wilson wrote an excellent book about the historic evolution of football tactics (called Inverting the Pyramid) which I recommend to anyone with a genuine interest in the game. However, his journalistic career as a tactics guru based on that book has revealed that the strength of the book was he ability as a researcher rather than an ability to read the game himself. For years he pumped out articles that rehash bits of his book and I've rarely found a useful or original tactical insight in his writing about current football. I thought this article was very thin on substance too. I mean, he might be proved right, but he doesn't tell us anything that UWW couldn't muster for the case for the prosecution: there's the win percentage, the inconsistency and the lack of proven pedigree, and very little nuance.

Completely agree with that. I loved that book but as a journalist, I don’t rate him at all. Michael Cox is better as a tactical analyst.

Nope but I would expect the most important areas to be looked at first. Prioritising is a key part of assembling a team.

Given the mess our squad was in, that’s highly debatable.

It’s also quite possible that a key target may not be available for 6/12 months and so rather than buy someone else, they’ve waited.

Too early to judge, no matter how keen you are.

Probably but then can't be compared to Klopp who progressed us every season, both in terms of results and the team progression.

Never said otherwise TOOR, though I’d say he has en entirely different project to the one Klopp had.
