21 days into the transfer window

And nothing.

Are the board really backing Arteta ?

I doubt they’ll be anything significant in January, probably some crappy loan deal or that injury prone PSG fall back.

Arteta sounds a bit frustrated with the lack of signings. It’s obvious this squad is pretty śhît especially with the injuries, I doubt even the best manager in the world could get the squad as it is, even fully fit one much higher than 6th.

It’s tough for everyone to bring in decent signings in January, so I’d be willing to accept not much if it meant some serious work was done to balancing out the squad in the summer. But the injuries and lack of fitness at the moment is a real concern. The squad is ridiculously thin, we can barely rotate in the cups and league, it’s not sustainable as it is. So we do need 1 or 2 bodies in at least

this is why the club got Arteta. a yes man who wont cause much of a fuss about no new signings.

I'm pretty sure whoever we got in wouldn't have been given funds in January. Also, making a fuss to your new employer is quick way to being unemployed.

He doesn't strike me as a yes man when I hear him speak in interviews, and wasn't he meant to have demanded things before taking on the job?

I think you have a good manager there, it's just whether you get the recruitment right.

All the backing in the world will make no difference if players don't want to come or clubs don't even bother with us because they CBA to waste their own time getting lo-balled by a club with no intention of paying the asking price. No matter what it is. We even haggle and underbid for players less than 15 mil, it's embarrassing.

I wouldn't join Arsenal ATM, if I was a player. And that's as a lifelong fan. I'd wait to see what happened there over the next couple of years at least. Wouldn't join before Ozil was gone either. Why join a handicapped team with a stingy owner. Those two hefty factors, on top of no CL football, suggest the club is heading toward PL nothingness, possibly even relegation. To a prospective signing, we look positively CURSED at the moment

Exactly why we don't have an Ancelotti calibre manager in post. Every one of those we spoke to demanded a 70-100 mil spend in this window, with a further 200ish come the summer. Any proven, successful manager is demanding a serious level of financial backing to sign. Seeing Kronke's form, likely as a contract claus to prevent him stiffing them after they've signed.

Arteta has nothing to lose might have gotten sick of Pep throwing his toys out the pram because he can't buy his way past this Pool team. Pep strikes me as the kinda guy who shouts at and blames all but his lauded self when he loses and as No 2, Arteta been balled at plenty this season. Must be something like that because I refuse to believe that he thinks he can fix this team without spending or is dumb enough to take Kronke's word for it and sign on faith, that he'll spend.

You have to make the differentiation between head coach and manager. Arteta is the Head Coach, his principal job is to get good performances out of the team. I’m sure they take his opinion into account when deciding who to get rid off and who to buy, would be crazy not to involve him in the process, but it’s not his job to manage the transfers etc.,
