Short in Midfield?

After Jamie Barjonas loan move to Partick Thistle and should Greg Docherty's proposed loan to Charlton go through we are going to be short on midfield numbers going into a crucial part of the season.

It leaves us with:

Steven Davis
Glen Kamara
Ryan Jack
Joe Aribo
Scott Arfield

We play with 4 of those at any given time. I feel that we are going to leave ourselves short if we get injuries which we almost certainly will or worse that Gerrard thinks Halliday could fill in

I know he's said we won't be bringing anyone in but surely we need another midfielder?

I would have preferred Docherty to stay and provide cover.

But at the same time i'd like him to get games to develop as I still think he can do a job for us in the future. Especially if Kamara has a good Euros and brings in some big money.

agree on Greg

He needs a championship team to have any chance though.

I think Docherty had to go out. He's at an age where he needs to play. Funny thing is, if rangers brought in King now it wouldn't have been as head scratching move like it was in summer.

yes weird signing

But maybe we just got lucky with minimal suspensions and injuries.

If we lose Docherty as well I would consider bringing McCrorie back for the second half of the season.

He would intergrate right away and he can play a number of positions. Would be useful to have around.

Gerrard said it's Jack keeping him out of the team as that's the role he suits.

McCrorie would be a shout, he's been shoehorned into a RB down the road which isn't very useful for us.

Mixed season down there. Sugar or shyyyyte

Motm awards
Manager says first name on team sheet
Sending offs
Dropped
Last ditch tackles.

Never a right back in our setup

Think he'll make a great 'detroyer' sadly we don't need that outwith maybe 15 games a season if that

I don't think bringing him back as backup is really right for him. If hes not getting right game time at cm I'd rather recall and send somewhere to start the remaining games as cm. If can't do that then get him in as our backup cm but I think sticking him on bench or on stands as backup will hold him back.

I agree it wouldn't help his development.

But as a low cost way to add another fairly reliable body to the midfield which is beginning to look a bit thin in a crucial season - it wouldn't be a bad option IMO.

Particularly if it gets so tight towards the business end and we are looking to bring on another defensive midfielder to help see out tight games for 1-0 wins etc.

I think having 5 players for central midfield options is enough, particularly when we generally only play about 2-3 out of this five at any given time

If 3 of them get injured, then yes, we will be short and would likely be relying on two guys filling the CM berths for every game until the others return, but for me that’s unlikely.

We have plenty of players to fill the wide areas,, some of whom I’m sure could play more central. I’d propose pushing Taverneir forward into a wide midfield role and moving Kent into a central position if needed, I think he could play there
