Abysmal football

Last night was the first game I have been to for a few games...and it will certainly be the last for a while.

I knew Jose was a dinosaur, but didn't realise just how bad the tactics would be. Our main tactic is genuinely to punt the ball up to Lucas and hope we win the second ball. We let the opposition have the ball, don't press and hope we can nick the ball and counter attack.

It's all very depressing.

1. Levy facked Pochettino over, like he did AVB, Sherwood (lolz), Redknap before him, by not investing properly or at the right times.

AVB and Sherwood are terrible examples. AVB spent over 100mill, he simply wasnt cut out for the prem.

He has publicly come out and said he wanted players like Oscar, Willian, Moutinho and so forth and wasn't given any of those. Instead had players he didn't really ask for instead...

fair enough. Was mainly that Franco Baldini wasnt it

Yeah, the players BBH mentions are the ones I'm talking about. Also worth bearing in mind he only got that bit transfer kitty after having to sell Bale.

To be fair Pochettino had a good wedge too over his 5 years, but it's when you look beneath the surface a bit and consider the detail, you see how many second-choice or cast-off players he got, and obviously on net spend he's not even close to the managers he was managing to out-perform

Imagine if we did get prime Moutinho and Willian

"The chairman proposed a challenge to increase Tottenham's competitive level, but immediately [Luka] Modric left and we didn't get any of the targets I had identified, such as Joao Moutinho, Willian, Oscar or Leandro Damiao," Villas-Boas said in an interview with TVI.

"These were promises that were not kept. I had a group of players I had not chosen. "In two years I lost [Rafael] van der Vaart, Modric, [Gareth] Bale, and all the promises made were unfulfilled.

When you think back about it all

I'm on record here saying if Pochettino got sacked then I want Mourinho. It wasn't because i like the man's style of football or think he will guarantee success but was under the impression that one of two things would happen:

1) He would only join having demanded significant investment in the squad from Levy in which case you would hope we become competitive

2) Levy fails to provide as per and Mourinho becomes toxic with fans turning against Levy for his hail mary of a managerial hiring

There is no excitement in our club anymore. No clear project in mind. No transfer strategy in place and all of that will pathetically boring football.

I have watched an interview with Jose where he directly quoted Klopp and his early performance (finished 6th and 8th) and how the club invested in him and his ideals.

Those are the only two scenarios in which his appointment was acceptable. Both are still possible tbf, but I definitely think #2 is more likely.

Definitely seems like Mourinho won't get any significant funds until the summer, at which point Spurs won't be able to offer anything better than Europa footie which, paired with Spurs' low wage ceiling and terrible scouts, means it won't be possible to sign anyone actually good. Top players won't be attracted by Ropey-League Spurs who underpay their stars, and young prospects will get pinched by clubs with better scouts while Spurs don't even notice.

And after a tough summer of no meaningful investment and no new players of any significant quality... that's when Mourinho will start really moaning.

Good times.
