Team selection head ache

So 3 big games coming up
Sat fa.cup Brentford
Tue league Cup villa
Sat premier league Chelsea
So how does Brendon play this one
Keep a full squad for Brentford to keep the momentum or
Rest 2 or 3 or rest 6 players,
Brentford have Nottingham forest next which is a major play off game / 3rd place so will probably rest a few of their players,

Next problem we have villa tue obviously a major game but then have Chelsea on sat which I feel if we win cements our champions league place
Mentally,

Glad I don't get paid 3 or 4 million a year for that head ache

Thinking further about it, if we're "unlikely to get to another final", then what exactly are we attempting to continue the club's development for? And why on Earth turn down the chance of getting to the probably only final we can reach?

We're the third best team in the country right now. At least by league table. What's your proposal? To sit and wait until Liverpool and Man City are no longer the colossi they are? And what will have happened by then? How long will clubs with a larger budget than ours be below us? How many of our players will have gone because the club aren't showing enough ambition? What kind of message does it send out to the squad, the fans, other clubs and potential future signings that we go "oh, actually we don't want to win this semi-final because we're not good enough to beat Man City in the final anyway".

You're just miles out on this one.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
We're not good enough to beat them because they're better than us, they're more experienced than us and they don't shiiit themselves in big games like us.

I just don't see the big deal about a day out at Wembley to see us lose, maybe you're happy with a day out and won't be bothered by losing but I will be. If I thought we even had half a hope of winning then great but I don't. I don't think we have a single hope of beating them because I am convinced that we will bottle it.

I personally don't care about going to Wembley to see us lose, playing at Wembley and losing isn't fun, it's absolutely facking shiiit so I'd rather not waste my money because I've got plenty of other trips that I'd rather spend the money on. Of course, just because I don't want us to lose in the final isn't going to stop the team from attempting to get there and if we do then I will definitely go, I'm just saying I don't care if we lose against Villa, doesn't bother me in the slightest.

At this stage of our development, winning a poxy League Cup isn't going to elevate us as a club, what will do that is finishing in the top four and play CL football because this is where the money is and the competition that the best players want to play in. In order to consistently finish in the top four we need to be able to attract and afford better players and when we have better players we stand a better chance of winning trophies. Winning a cup, or reaching a final, doesn't do anything to move us forward as a club.

So if you gave me a choice is beating Chelsea or losing to City in the final then it's beating Chelsea all day.

Winning a cup and reaching finals is absolutely part of moving forward as a club. Look at what's happened to Spurs. Being a top 4 club with a reputation for not being ruthless only takes you so far. Deciding that you can't take the extra step yet because you think you're not ready becomes a habit in itself. It's like in a match, you generally have to score while you're on top.

The problem Spurs had is Levy and his reluctance to invest in the team, something our owners have shown no sign of doing.

This resulted in them stagnating and left them with players feeling disillusioned. It's not the same. Getting to a cup final doesn't elevate us, just like getting to the CL final hasn't elevated Spurs. What elevates a club to the next level is investment in better players, not cup finals. Reaching the League Cup final won't give us the money to invest in the team either, whereas reaching the Champions League will.

Oh and reaching a cup final and winning it are two totally different things. Watford reached the FA Cup final and look at them, has it done them any good? Have they been able to sign players to take them to the next level because they managed to reach the final? Obviously not.

I can see the arguments on both sides here.

I’ll just leave it there 🙃

But then I may be off my face on Morphine,
Seems there's quite a difference between

I can understand fans wanting to get to a cup final, I just can't get excited about it and to me it's no big deal but I'm just convinced we will lose.
