Klopp vs FA vs PL vs Winter Break

I wonder if the football authorities in other countries that have a winter break tend to schedule competitive matches during said winter break. Genuinely, I don't know.

It seems a bit strange having a winter break but then scheduling a competitive match during said winter break. A winter break is a winter break, no? Should it be available for scheduling replays? Has it happened in any other country? Do they ever play any football.of any kind during a winter break?

Personally I think the winter break should be respected. They should schedule any competitive games at other times during the season. The winter break should not be available for this purpose. Its a time when no football is played.

There's an element of the FA/PL disrespecting the idea of a winter break. If the team have to be active then it means that that team will not have had a winter break, whereas every other team has had a winter break. Is this not unfair?

This issue seems to cause furore but I think I'll trust the club with this one and I back Klopp because the idea of a winter break should either be respected or scrapped altogether if they can't. The winter break was introduced for a reason which they now want to throw out the window.

Also, anyone know if we are contractually bound to give the senior squad a winter break?

Good points in the OP. In general I agree with Klopp. Winter break is winter break. And I think he should keep his stance.

Other manager complained about it too. Its facking mental to have been ordered a winter break and then have the FA plan a match right in the middle of it.

Its unfair competition with disadvantage to Liverpool.

Having said that, you should have facking buried Shrewsburry 10-0 considering you are world european PL elect champions.

By the way, in Netherlands the winter break is respecting. Teams go on training camp etc, there are no games planned by the Dutch FA in winter and summer break.

Yeah so you didnt beat them 10-0, but you should have, and could have, you had the players at your display.

Anyway, not the point I was making. There should be no matches in winter break.

Isn't Klopp making a point here? He's been a leading voice on the amount of games palyed, and when the winter break was announced he'd have been a big advocate of it.

Now the winter break is being used for games he'd look like a hypocrite to be happy to play a game in that period, he's standing up for what he believes is right here.

As soon as he said it I knew it would kick off with the traditionalists...

there's surely being unhappy and then theres going the steps too far.

If he can get them to move the replays away from the break then its a little victory.

Trust me, if he goes through full bore with this plan on 5th feb it'll not be a victory of any sort.

LFC will never live it down and all thats come before will be ignored as it'll be all our fault the magic of the cup is ruined.

There’s 2 issues here

If there was no break he’d probably play a really weak team anyway and that’s fine it’s within his rights.

But the break is for players to avoid fatigue because apparently that’s why we suck at summer competitions ...

He should still be there in the dugout tho. That’s what’s causing the outrage.

To be honest it’s also a bad move for Liverpool’s kids and reserves. Imagine what they’d get out of a few days pregame training under klopp and the first team coaches, his team talk, tactics etc. could be extremely beneficial to their development.

Just unnecessary point scoring by him against the FA

ive no issue with the main lot not turning up including Klopp and getting their 14 days its been planned with all their families etc and the FA said to respect it...

But surely its a good opportunity for the lads who need minutes to get back up to speed, shake off some rust, the kids and the ones back from injury can make do with just 11 day break? its 3 days ffs theyre not losing an entire 14 day break are they?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You can't really make that argument and they'll all lose more than 3 days at the end of it You're actually making excuses. A winter break is a winter break and should be the same for all teams in a league, its very simple IMO. When have you seen teams playing competitive games during the break? Will England be the first to do it?

To be honest I thought this was a foregone conclusion. Any football person should understand why the winter break should mean the winter break for all teams, not some teams.

The fact that half your winter break vanishes if you don't win or draw your FA cup game is actually a joke.

So him not being there is the only issue and you've labelled it as unnecessary point scoring?

I think he wants a break and also wants to make a point. How is it unnecessary point scoring?

The FA took the league cup from our table by refusing to reschedule our match like they've done in previous years and now they've come to take away our international break as well.

They need to stop chasing the money blindly and be considerate.

If you ask me, they can suck on Klopps blonde nuts.
